Basically I've got this machine from a work college for free.

So I wiped the drive properly and installed windows 7 on it.
I haven't had any drivers except the ones came with the installation disk. So I went a head and updated the system. Trough windows update I was able to find a few drivers such as audio etc...
Then I tried a few driver finder/updater program and my drivers almost all up to date except the wifi driver.
I cant seem to find the darn thing anywhere. I know that this laptop is pretty old and I really should just run XP on it but I thought I'll give it a try.
Every program that I've installed so far seems to run pretty smooth (No lagging or freezing whatsoever.

If I can't find any solution here (or anyone to be able to help) the only option left is to shell out for a usb wifi unit.

Btw..according to Driver Booster this driver is the one that my system needs: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter. Which of course still leave me with a big red x on the network icon.

Thanx very much in advance!

That device ended during the xp era however I saw references to other people who say they were able to use the windows vista version of that driver to get it running on win7. Almost certainly however, those people are talking about 32-bit vista and 32-bit win7, so hopefully you are using win7 32-bit.

So you need the newest (most recent) date version of the driver and then manually install the inf file

So how to find the newest version of your driver? Start with the Hardware ID. You can find it by clicking start > run > msinfo32 (enter) > components > problem devices. The PCI/VEN number is on the right as your (probably only) problem device. I'm betting your Hardware ID is

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1043

If not just post the right one here. But assuming that PCI/VEN number is correct for you, you google that string and click on every link that DOES NOT have the word "driver" or "drp" in the domain name. Every one of those domains are driver helper sites that are just waiting to install malware on your machine. I did find this download

https://rebyte.me/en/intel/125582/file-560483/

but it does not mention vista and was released in 2006 before vista came out. Maybe there is a newer version but if so I did not see it in my quick search. You can use 7-zip to extract the downloaded file into a folder, then manually install the inf file that is found in the extracted files. Instructions to do so are here:

Hey John,

Unfortunately the driver that you've linked to didn't work.
I have a feeling that the person who gave me this laptop removed the wireless unit or card whatever it's called, I'm still quite a noob :) (probably that's why it was a free kick down...)
I don't' really wanna ask him because I hate to be a complainer, and since it was free those wifi dongles doesn't cost much these days..

Thanks Again!

Yes you will want to get a usb2.0 wifi adapter

Btw the wireless cardt could not have been removed from your computer because windows is trying (though failing) to load a driver for it, which it only does when it detects a wireless card there. Sometimes there is a switch or a special key that will allow you to turn it off, which I would do since it does not have a driver. Not a big deal either way.

Thanks John for your effort of trying to sort this out,

I'll probably getting one of those wifi adapters this week, as I said earlier they aren't cost much these days..
