WMP 12 Hangs

In Windows 7 Beta, RC, and now the official version, Windows Media Player 12 hangs under the following circumstances and will not work until I reboot:

• When I open WMP to my library and click the Play button.
• When I pause a song for several minutes then try to unpause it.
• Sometimes, even double-clicking a song to start it causes the player to hang.

I can't tell you how frustrating this problem is and want Microsoft to fix this. The cursor circle/ring just spins incessantly as WMP acts like, any second now, it will start to play my songs. (The songs are not corrupt; they play fine in other PCs and even on the same computer but in other players.)

The process wmplayer.exe stays in memory even after I have closed the WMP application.


An enhancement request would be to have WMP stop trying to sync whenever I insert a flash drive. I want to turn off syncing permanently but have not found the settings to allow this.

Try updating the version.

This is an official unreleased to public MS patch version upgrade and has not been tampered with as that would be nearly impossible.

If you need x64, you'll have to Google for that since I don't have it myself.

You might be able to disable Sync Center with Shell View ... just be careful which one you disable!
