WMP 12 Library Bug SOLUTION

As far as I know lots of people have problems with missing media in WMP 12 library. I tried looking for resolution on the net, but found nothing. So I decided to do something myself and after 3 days of experiment I have a Working Solution to the missing media problem.

It looks like during the upgrade Vista -> 7 or XP -> 7 some folders containing media get corrupted. MOVE YOU MEDIA TO NEW FOLDERS! It will make WMP 12 recognize it correctly.

Example:
You have a folder called "Metallica", which contains a folder "St.Anger", which contains your media. WMP does not find these songs and does not add them to the library. Here's the resolution.
1. Restore WMP12 library. (Right click under the window title -> Tools -> Advanced -> Restore media lybrary) This will close WMP12. Keep it closed during the procedure.
2. Go to the location of your media (My Music, etc.)
3. Rename "Metallica" to "Metallica1"
4. Create New Folder called "Metallica" in the same location
5. Create a New Folder called "St.Anger" in the *NEW* "Metallica" folder
6. Cut-and-Paste you media from "Metallica1\St.Anger\" to "Metallica\St.Anger\"
7. Delete "Metallica1" (Your media should be already in the new folder, so you will not lose your files)
8. Log out, Log in (not sure if it is necessery, but don't take any chances)
9. Start WMP12 and enjoy your media appearing and remaining in the library

Thanks for the advice and i know your just trying to help, but with 20,000 songs that could be a monumental task. I think if you dl'd the fix that MS gave everything works. I have all my music on drive F: dual booting XP and Win 7 and can play either library with no prob's. The only prob i have is the popping and cracking of the sound in Win 7 on an Audigy 2ZS gamer and that's a driver prob that will eventually be fixed.

Well yeah, but I got just 7 gigs, so for me it works just fine. And not everybody can (or want) to dualboot just to get some music playin', right? Furthermore you need a separate partition or a hard drive for that. For us, the ordinary folks, who got just 1 OS and keep the music in My Music, that's the way to fix MP12 library ;)

I tried to answer your post but apparently you took it the wrong way, now my question is why are you running a beta os by itself. Dual booting is for learning a new os to see what prob's other people are haveing and how to fix them. And for your information most people here are ordinary people willing to help when needed. Time to get off that horse.

Exactly, that's what I'm trying to do- fix a problem. Dualbooting is not a fix, is it? You can't fix an OS by installing another OS! I really don't see what's the problem here, there's a way of fixing corrupted media library and I'm sharing it.. And what exactly are you trying to say? "Why fix your player, since you can dualboot"? I don't get it, really. I run Win 7 solo, because I think it's stable enough. It has bugs, there are ways to fix those bugs. This is one of them. Dualbooting is not. It's just a way of avoiding bugs. If you don't find the solution I posted reasonable, don't use it..

:)

Ronnin, if you can figure out why Windows Media 12 absolutely will not add any Video files to it's library, post a new thread. Out of close to 500GB of Music and Videos, WMP12 just does not add videos!

I tried you workaround for the videos also, but no go...

When I first installed Win7, I scanned my Media and WMP found everything. I emptied the library and it would not find anything else other than the music.
Pictures and Videos won't get added again.

So I just dragged the videos and pictures folders to WMP and they got added that way.

Try dragging your folder to WMP and see if that helps.
