WRC 8 Wont Connect to Server

I'm currently playing Dirt Rally 2.0 (which uses Steam) on my win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. This game seems to work fine and saves stage time to my account on the Steam server.

I also have WRC 8 (my first game of this series) but this game fails to connect to the server (error 12) when it first starts and then fails to connect to the server to save stage times at the point when you have finished a stage.

There are some suggestions elsewhere that people who have had this problem on win 7 often find that the game will connect to the server correctly when run on Win 10.

Anyone any ideas whats stopping it on win 7?

This might well have something to do with an upgrade to security protocols used on the internet. By default, Windows 7 uses the now obsolete TLS 1.0, whereas Windows 10 uses TLS 1.1 and 1.2.
Make sure that you have Updated your computer, to receive TLS 1.1 and 1.2, and then apply the DefaultSecureProtocols Quick FIx from Microsoft.
