Solved wrt54gs version 6 lnksys router

Im' kind of worried , I have used this router about 3 times on the same cable line

Ok problem is This new computer one i am on didn't finish the install process but the router is on and i have a connection

I did set a admin password and homegroup password /didn't change homegroup password to my own yet

I am just wondering now if i wanted to access this net through another pc will my password be active or will i have no protection at all ?


Or should i attempt to reinstall the lnksys router software again

Your question is a bit vague...there really is not 'router software'. Are you referring to the setup wizard? Are you exclusively using the wireless aspect of the router, wired? Both? Will your access from another system be over the internet or local?

Have you accessed the router setup page (192.168.1.1) to manually check and/or set your settings? Have you changed the admin passowrd from the default to something secure? Here is a good link that explains what the settings are:

If using wireless, your best protection is a strong, strong passphrase and WPA2/AES (or if using XP, WPA/TKIP) encryption. Using a password you can remember based on this or that formula is generally not as strong as a randomly generated passphrase. I use a free program called Password Safe. The advantage is that you can store all your passwords in this 'safe'. You only have to memorize the password to open the safe (which should also be a strong password). It has a password generator, for which you can change the generation policy, creating up to 64 character passwords. You can also include special characters such as ), space,:, etc. .

You merely enter your password to open PWsafe, then choose the website or router, or whatever you need access to, then click the icon to copy the passowrd or usernme to the clipboard, then paste it into the password field. You can make them as strong as you wish because you don't have to remember them. Be sure to keep your password safe backed up.

As far as the computers, you don't need to set as strong a password as the routers (and certainly you won't be using pwsafe to log in...), but using dictionary words, birthdays and similar is always a mistake and easily cracked.

I think that awnsered it

I was using the install wizard cd but it didn't finish installing
Basicly cut short

Yet my router re activated Im assuming that i used this router a few times on the same line the private password is still active and set in this router

that was basicly my question but i think i understood the guide and i have fixed the issue
