Hi!

I need help troubleshooting something on my wifes rig! Heres detailed infos:

My wifes computer is beside mine's. Shes has speakers on and the computer is in sleep mode.

I was on my PC browsing stuff then heard a weird noise out of her speakers (PC is sleeping!). Turn my head to watch her monitors but nothings on. Had a look on her tower and the power button light isnt flashing like it normally does on sleep. Tried waking up the machine but it wont come back. Pressed the power button; nothing.

Took the side cover off to see the DRAM led light flashing red. Turned the power supply OFF and unplugged it a few seconds. Replugged everything and tried to power off. Nothing. DRAM still flashes. I could hear a very small hissing sound from the PSU along the blinks. Tried pressing the onboard Bios buttons (MemOK, BIOS Flashback). Nothing worked. Tried to take 1 RAM out. Didnt work.

The hissing sound reminded me of when my old monitor's MBoard was toast. Decided to try swapping the PSUs just for the heck of it. DRAM still flashes.

What other test can I do?
The computer doesnt even have a year of use yet. She needs her rig for work.

Asus Z87-Pro (V Edition)
EVGA GTX750 TI FTW
Corsair CX500M
Intel I5 4690
G.Skill 8GB
Crucial SSD 128GB
Western Digital 1TB

Thanks!

Dram flashing could be a sign of bad memory or not being seated properly

I would test each stick of ram and run memtest if you can do that then i would buy new ram and test if if that doesn't work the mobo may have given up the ghost but it sounds like a failed memory module

I may have misleaded you with the title as I am unsure what DRAM light really is.

To make this clear, when I say DRAM led light flashing, I mean the little led light on the motherboard that looks like a POWER button (you know, kinda circle with a line in it).

Is that it? If so, how can I run a Memtest without the machine running? Swapping her Ram into my computer?

ALSO! I noticed the glowshift X360 controller was staying on (lights on the controller) even wen the computer was asleep. May that have burned up something?

No the control doesn't do that now if you really want to know which is the Ram light Motherboard light ect. consult your manual

depending on the board if you have a memory ok button the light will flash red either once or twice if you hit the ram ok button it should flash to about 3 short red flashes if that isn't going on and hitting the ram ok button then your ram is baaahhhhdd!

Actually the light flashes continuously wether or not I press the power button. As soon as there is power to the PSU, the light flashes. Pressing MemOK does nothing.

That means your ram has went south i would try it in another machine if not order some ram off the QVL qualified vendors list and try that most likely it's dead ram if it is continuously flashing that is a sign that the ram is not seated correctly or has gone south

What sucks is that my RAM sticks arent compatible with her motherboard according to the user manual. Both are DDR3 1600 tho.

Coulda tried putting my RAM in and see. Now she'll have to buy RAM over the interwebz then hope that is the problem and not the motherboard...

and put it back ?

I did.

I talked with Asus today and they asked me to take the board out of the case and try to turn it on. To see if it could be short to the casing. I havent had time for that now but will do. If it still doesnt work, I'll have to claim RMA.

I know this thread is old, but the button you described sounds like an on board power button. It is usually solid red when it has stand by power. There are LEDs for the ram on some boards and what Solar told you about them are true.

You are right. Although the thread isnt that old. I received the new board yesterday. I had contacted ASUS which made me test the board out of the case and called it dead so I sent in RMA.
