xbcd xbox controller windows 7

NOT 360 controllers.

I was able to run xbox (NON 360) controllers with xbcd.dll drivers.
in windows xp.

they do not seem to take effect with windows 7.

X_x....

Anyone know what I need to do ?
So many forums out there talking about vista.
I tried a few things, but the vista options dont seem to work.

Well its not POS Vista lol : )
I have this problem as well. I've been searching various forums, and I can't figure out how to get it to work.

Little information:

I dual boot Windows XP and Windows 7 (Love both, right now), and XBCD is a fine driver for Windows XP, but I can't get it to run under Windows 7. I've been wanting to move several of my FPS games over from XP to 7 via a couple reg-edits, but I am hesitant to do so if I won't have a controller to play with. I don't have $40 to spend on an Xbox 360 controller that I don't need for anything else, and this controller works fine for everything else, so I don't want one, either.

Is there any way that, with the current software, I can get my controller to work on both versions of Windows without problems? I would expect this to be a really simple problem to fix, but I'm not 100% certain.

Thanks for your time and assistance!

Edit: Wow. Well, I can relate the steps on how I got it working, but that's pretty much it. o-O

Literally two minutes after posting this, I decided to go to the Device Manager and take a look around. I had installed the last version of XBCD moments prior. When I went to the DM (Under Hardware and Sound in the Control Panel), I found that there was an icon with a yellow warning sign. At this point, I can't replicate this step since it's now fixed, but I think I double clicked on that icon, and then Windows 7 practically jumped headfirst on the problem and solved it in two seconds.

Hoo-rah for Windows 7. It's so good, it reads my mind and does everything for me. :D

Ok so I've tried everything ever posted and that I could find on google and nothing worked. I finally found the solution to get XBCD working flawless on Windows 7 x64 7600! The major issues is that XBCD does not used a signed driver (think because it cost lots of money to sign a driver) and ever since Vista SP1 they enabled a signed driver enforcement... The second issue is with the version that most people download...

0.5 Uninstall any previous XBCD and drivers from previous attempts...

1. Disable UAC and restart. This is done in msconfig and under the tools tab.

2. Download and install Driver Signature Enforcement Overide driver from Software Releases - NGOHQ.com ... Open and turn on "test mode", restart.

3. Download XBCD 0.2.7 from this thread XBCD - XBox Controller Driver Forum -> Latest 0.2.6 Version .. Install

Hope this helps others who have had problems getting it to work in W7.

Keeps going, and going, and going.......
I HAD a problem, but JUST when I was about to post it here, I found a solution on my own.. Still, I figured I'd post this information, in case it helps anyone ELSE.. Unlike some people, I had NO PROBLEMS getting the right drivers & getting my xbox controller (non-360) working (under Windows 7 Ultimate, 32bit, build 7600). All of the buttons were working FINE, according to the XBCD test utility.. BUT:

..my PROBLEM was: if I needed to make any CHANGES to the controller setup. For example, I like to play the PC version of GTA: San Andreas, with my xbox controller, & set the controls to function just like the xbox version of the game. The controller was working SOMEWHAT, but in order to get maximum functionality, and get the RIGHT analog stick to properly control the camera angles, I needed to do some adjusting within the XBCD utility (by assigning the directions on the RIGHT thumb stick to operate as extra (POV) BUTTONS, rather than an AXIS, then further adjusting which buttons do what from within the game). I once had this working just FINE under Windows XP..

.....But, in Windows 7, everytime I adjust the controller settings in XBCD, then Windows (and GTA) FAIL to recognize the changes.. The changes are reverted back to default as soon as I close XBCD (even if I TRY to use the "apply" & "save" features to save my settings). But then I found a way to work around this:

.....The SOLUTION is: I must reset the computer, jam on the F8 key before windows loads, start my system in SAFE MODE, open XBCD, make changes to the controller settings, click "apply," then save, then reset the computer AGAIN, let it run in regular mode, and voila -- my changes are still in effect! I hate to have to GO through all that, but at least it WORKS!

.....Between Windows 7 (which is NICE, but its beefed-up security is very STRICT about granting permission for any CHANGES being made), and my Norton program (which adds even MORE security, and sometimes reports files as dangerous, which are NOT dangerous), I find that my computer is often OVER-PROTECTED, to the point where I have to run (or at least "setup" & "register") many programs under SAFE MODE, just to get them running properly. In fact, I had to recently make a special folder for all of my gaming needs, and instruct Norton to simply IGNORE EVERYTHING in that folder & subfolders. It will still protect the REST of my computer, but when it comes to THAT SPECIFIC folder, I made sure JUST THAT FOLDER is excluded from all system scans & any active security monitoring features. I don't let Windows, or Norton, or any other security program INTERFERE with that folder, because they only get in the WAY (I'll handle any threats to that folder MANUALLY)..

But yeah, the bottom line is: anytime my computer fails to run, install, update, register, or fix ANYthing within Windows 7, I've found that trying it again under SAFE MODE usually solves it. I can't stress it enough: SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE... It will solve MOST people's problems in Windows 7, which is a GREAT operating system overall. I just wanted to share that with everyone. Sorry for briefly going off-topic to talk about Norton, when really this was a non-Norton-related problem. But at least what I've posted DOES have to do with XBCD, the Xbox controller, Windows 7, and SAFE MODE. I hope it helps SOMEBODY out there. Good luck, & happy gaming.

..and REMEMBER, ANY time you have a problem with something... Determine if it might be because Windows 7 is blocking the changes from being made (sometimes it does this in the background, without giving you a REASON).. Run SAFE MODE & try it again!

Unfortunately a lot of older games don't seem able to recognize the shoulder triggers on a 360 controller. They can pick up Xbox triggers due to the buttons inside but 360 game pads are build differently.

I'm currently using a PS1 controller with USB adapter. The Radio Shack XP drivers work, but I had to install them just to get the thing to work at all. No plug and play on this device.

Just to throw this out there. Madkatz xbox 360 usb controllers work 100% and self install. They are only 25 bucks to boot. They feel exactly like a regular xbox 360 controller and work perfect. I use them for GTA4, SF4, all sorts.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, and I didn't follow any of the advice on this forum. I just installed the latest 1.07 XBCD drivers, then plugged in the controller after that and it worked. As far as adjusting the setting and button mapppings, you don't have to be as complicated as SirReno7. Just start the Setup Utility but right-clicking on the link and doing a "Run as Administrator"

Yeah, but wheres the fun in that? there's always somewhat of an adventure, when rigging stuff the old fashioned way. yay.

After much frustration, I found this driver to work. Google likes to show you outdated drivers for some reason. If this is ever dead, Google XBCD 0.2.7 and it will work and I think you have to disable driver signing as I did do that first but this is the only one to work. Using Windows 7 Pro x64.

I've found a program online called XPadder, which takes Xbox and Xbox360 controller inputs and maps them to the normal keystrokes that PC games take. You can customize these for any game on your PC, and the program only costs you 9.99 USD. This provides you with:
"The latest version of Xpadder, full forum access and free updates forever. Total:$9.99USD"

Xpadder.com

It works great, and I've used it ever since I found out about it.

Hey guys, i found another solution for this.

don't use XP robcardiv !
i got it !

You need the program " Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider ".

  • Run it with admin privileges and enable test mode.

  • reboot

  • then install the driver for a xbox2pc converter. (Tiger Game XBox Controller / search google for super joy box 9 and chose the first link )

  • open DSEO , enable test mode and reboot again

  • now plug in your controller

  • windows will detect it, but wont be able to install the right driver. the device will have an exclamation mark.

  • double click on the device -> chose tab Hardware -> select the correct hardware and double click -> chose tab Driver -> Let me pick -> show me a list of all ... -> all devices -> TIGER GAME XBOX CONTROLLER ! (the steps from "pick driver" etc. can have a little different name, but they are the same. )
if you can't see the driver, reboot normally and then enable test mode again and reboot.

Yeah, it may takes long, but after that Windows 7 will always see your controller and it will work fine !

i copied exactly what was written on here and it worked fine. only problem i have now is that i cant use the triggers when trying to play gta III dunno if anyone can help me out here. but everything else is perfect!

Follow this!!
