hello guys.

this problem is happening on a windows XP system
but i trust the good people here to try and help me.

a friend of mine bought a new xbox 360 controller for PC.
he attached it to a computer running win xp sp3,
and ran the installation from cd.
everything went fine, but the controller doesn't sync with the receiver.

we tested it on a win 7 system and on another xp system, worked just fine.

the problem is, when i press on the sync button on the controller, the light starts to spin
then i press on the sync button on the receiver, the controller light stop spinning and starts flashing.

when i take the receiver out of the computer and plug it back in, the controller turns off! (WTF?)

what we tried so far:
endless re installation of the driver.
installation of older software (1.1 instead of 1.2)
removed all usb hubs, used usbdeview to delete usb history,
updated chipset
removed all startup items and non ms services (except the xbox one's)

nothing helps.

hey boobah,
this is not a case of a fake receiver.

it was bought with the controller itself, it's a microsoft retail package, it has the software instllation cd,
and as i mentioned before, it works just fine on another xp machine and another windows 7 machine.

do you have a suggestion of how to completely remove any driver of the xbox controller that was installed?
because when i remove the driver and then restart the computer, it will automatically install the driver.

i tried drive sweeper but i don't see the xbox controller driver there.

sorry, i just happened to know about the fake recievers,
one thing though,
you say when you delete the driver it installs automatically on reboot,

is the reciever still plugged in at boot.
that may cause it to auto install.
and in the device manager are you deleting the driver from the computer not just uninstalling

Have you tried turning off autoplay?

Gotta have at least 1!
it doesn't matter if it's connected or if i connect it after the system restarts.
when the receiver connects it will automatically install the driver that i uninstalled previously from device manager.

that's the thing, it's not unidentified,
it's perfectly identified and installed but behave abnormal.

how do i uninstall it completely so that when i restart windows will not automatically install the driver
and show the controller as unidentified so i can choose the driver i want?

i've used driver sweeper but it couldn't find the xbox driver.
can you recommend on an alternative application to do that?
