Okay, so here at work, our CAD machine is very old and aging. It is an old HP XP x86 system that is so underpowered, what should take a few minutes to do, is taking exponentially longer. Our company is too cheap to buy a new PC, but we do have a Systemax C2D E5400 with 4gigs and a basic ATI GPU. This PC is also x86, but with Windows 7.

Question; How can I transfer the files, documents and software from the XP machine to the 7 machine? We cannot find all of the software discs to just install it onto the 7 machine. Also, we have a myriad of .dxf files and CAD files that need to make it's way to the new machine. One of the programs, ProNest, needs to be flawlessy transferred with all of the data intact.

Your help will be greatly appreciated. I am very good on the hardware end of knowledge and can get by on the software end, just never done this before.

Thanks,

James

Something tells me that your out of luck as most of the CAD programs are written for a specific OS and you will need
to check with the manufacturer of your CAD program to see if they have an upgrade to windows 7.

Also, the install does a lot of strange things with graphic drivers and placing files in the windows/system directory and such...
