xfi elite pro recording question

in recording devices i can only seem to have one recording device working at a time which will be the default device
all the others say currently unavailable
with xp i could have line in 2 and line in 3 working at the same time

If you set "what you hear" as the default recording device, do you get all the inputs? I have an Xfi titanium fatality champion sound card and that is the way it works.

I don't think you can get what you want in Win 7 unless you use the what you hear (system mixer) function. Some of the audio functions are handled differently in Vista/Win 7 than they were in earlier operating systems.

thx fireberd but thats not very good for me it means i cant record onto 2 separate tracks from different inputs

You could try to record a stereo track, by using two inputs. I other input with for example a mic and other a guitar. Then just make the stereo track two mono tracks and pan them where you want. It works at least with a mixer (hardware).

The "Line In" is two channel (stereo), you can have separate mono devices connected to the two channels in the Line In and then record. The only issue is the signal levels, if they are low level "instrument level" signals you will need to amplify them up to near "line level" or use an external mixer - feed the two signals into the mixer and then feed them (separate them with the Left/Right balance controls in the mixer) to the PC with the "line level" output from the mixer.
