Hello, all -

somehow I managed to do the unthinkable. I was trying to do a dualboot with windows 7 and XP.

i ran my old xp oem cd and when it was installing i figured it would install one my unpartition space. well it looks like it rewrote the partions and just installed itself over everything. is all my data lost?

i havent done anything yet in windows xp. is there something i can do?

Did you say format this disk when you started the install?

You might be able to use a program like partition magic. Than create two separate partitions.

WOW admin take away my badge, I'm an idot. It's been so long since I ran XP or done an installation. I should have never bothered. Will give Recuva a go, thanks for the advice!

A MS OEM or a Manufacturer's OEM like Toshiba.

Did you actually have a separate data partition before XP? Cos otherwise XP would just have seated itself on C: drive.

Was this a factory restore CD that you used?

Dell. Up all night. Formated again and install Windows 7 back. XP is gone and won't do that again. Most likely all data lost.

Dell XP Home recovery... The data was overwritten. My options now are to use 3rd party application and spend lots of money to recovery data.

Yes, if you store data on the same partition as windows, it'll be lost in the restore process.
