XP Mode Desktop crashes

I loade XP Mode onto Win 7 HP 64 and the desk top crashes 98% of the time when loading. I press "Restore My Active Desktop" and nothing happens - always have to restore manually. I have deactivated the active destop and tried sevral things. Thanks....

This might be because of the edition of your Windows 7. XP Mode checks the edition when launched, and because it is only meant to be run on Ultimate and Enterprise, it normally does not run at all on Home Premium.

The only valid way to use XP Mode, according to the EULA (End User License Agreement), is to install it on Windows 7 Ultimate or Enterprise.

I finally got the "Restore Desktop" button working by reinstalling, but it still crashes most of the time.

I honestly believe the reason being what I told you in my previous post. XP Mode checks the edition of your Windows 7, finds it's an edition not allowed to run XP Mode and terminates it.

Valid methods for you as a Home Premium user would be to download install XP from your own install media to a virtual machine in Virtual PC, VirtualBox or VMware. The XP install media should be valid and licensed, you'll also need a product key.

Not available for Home premium. Try Vmware player, it's a doddle.

Everything works except when the destop first opens. Don't like VMWare because of the way the controls are set up.
