Apologies if this has been covered - I'm new to Window 7, Virtualization, and XP mode so I may not be using the right terms in searching.

I've installed Virtual PC and XP mode on my new laptop (I5 with 6Gig RAM). I've installed Quickbooks Pro 2008 in the XP Mode area, because it won't run under Windows 7 directly. I'll upgrade at some point, but this is exactly the reason for XP mode I think.

There's another gotcha with QB Pro 2008 in XP Mode, in that it freezes when trying to open files outside the XP mode box. This isn't just a set up problem AFAIK, because there is information on an Intuit forum describing the workaround of putting the company files in the XP User's desktop. Not a great solution, but I can live with it.

But I want to be able to access that area from my Win7 user, and can't figure out how to do it. I can't see the Virtual Hard Drive from the host, and I don't know how to share it (assuming that's the problem).

Do I need to change the networking set up for this? I just followed the defaults, so ended up with shared networking.

I have a feeling I need some sort of step by step for this, but I haven't had much luck with what I've found so far.

TIA
Mike

Are you talking about typing a search into the start menu and seeing a program that is installed on xp mode? I installed firefox in xp mode and can type it in the windows 7 start menu, and I can open the program (listed as firefox xp mode) in Win7 through xp mode, without actually manually starting up xp mode.

Or are you talking about something different?

I want to access the files in the XP Mode Desktop folder from the host. I copied over the QB company file to get it to work, but I want to ensure I can get to the files from Windows 7. This issue seems to be a special case with QB, but I'd like to make sure I understand how to communicate.

Thanks
Mike

I don't think that can be done. But I could be wrong. So I would be interested in what some of the other members have to say.
