XP Mode "VM Update" failed

I was installing XP Mode on my computer. The DL and installation went fine. I then downloaded and installed the VM update. When a reboot was conducted I was informed that the update failed. Tried several DL's and installs. Result always a failure.
In Microsoft's genial way they failed to tell me what caused this so I am at a loss.

The file in question is:
Windows 6.1 KB958559-x86.msu

I had the same problem. Installs the 1st part fine (or so it seems), reboots, gets to 93% and doesn't go any further. Reboots again and then says it's quitting the install procedure.

Finally fixed. MoBo Asus M2n-VM-DVI was incompatible. Tried two of them.
Installed a M3A78-EM Asus MoBo and everything OK.
