XPS Has Caused Windows Explorer To Stop Working

I wasn't sure if this was the best subfolder to post this in.

Something happened on one of my users computers, Microsoft XPS Document Writer seems to have gone off the deepend. Whenever we try to print to it, we do not get the dialog box asking us where to save it, and if we try to print a test page from the Devices and Printers, printer properties, we get the the error message that XPS Has Caused Windows Explorer To Stop Working.

I tried uninstalling the device and readding it, to no success. I have no idea where to go from here, short of reinstalling the OS, and that is a reality I am hoping to avoid.

The computer in question is running Windows 7 Profession 64 bit.

Unfortunately, that article doesn't seem to help much. It was actually one of the first things I read when I came here about this issue.

When anyone tries to print to XPS on that computer, we don't get the save as dialog box at all.

Has the user done anything? You could try a restore point to before this happened.

See if toggling the XPS features helps

First, turn the feature(s) off
Control panel -> Programs and Features
Turn Windows Features on or off
scroll down
Untick both XPS entries
save changes
exit Control panel -> Programs and Features
Restart your machine

Now do the same sequence again, but mark the checkboxes this time to turn the feature(s) on

Control panel -> Programs and Features
Turn Windows Features on or off
scroll down
Tick both XPS entries
save changes
exit Control panel -> Programs and Features
Restart your machine

Now you can test to see if that helped.

What we ended up doing was completely uninstalling/removing XPS, rebooting, uninstalling MS Office 2010, rebooting, reinstalling Office, rebooting, add XPS.

Loads of fun.
