Got a strange problem with Ebay that's suddenly started happening for no apparent reason. When I visit Ebay using my IE 11 browser, it causes IE to stop working. It doesn't affect other tabs that are open on IE, just the one that I'm using. I just close the IE message box and the Ebay tab and carry on as normal with IE. It's a pain as I use Ebay quite a lot and can't access the site now..

I haven't changed anything on my desktop pc to cause this. The only thing to mention is that I was away for 2 weeks and the pc wasn't used. When I started using it again after returning, there were some updates. Wondering if something with these has caused a problem, as Ebay was working before I went away and the updates were made.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Just a thought. Is the date and time correct?

Hi Paul.

Thanks for your reply. If you mean the date and time displayed in the bottom right corner of my screen (in screen shot above), then yes, it's correct.

UPDATE.

It seems like the main problem is accessing Ebay via their main home page. Doing this causes IE to stop working on that tab immediately.

However, on emails I regularly get from Ebay, they have products they promote/recommend from saved sellers who I may have bought from in the past. If I click on one of these saved sellers product links, this seems to get me into Ebay by the back door. I was able to use Ebay for some time, logged in and even left feedback for some recent purchases. I could do quite a bit before occasionally IE would stop working again. I just accessed Ebay via the back door again and carried on.

So, the problem is much worse if I access Ebay from the home page. Is this an Ebay problem? Is it my pc that's the problem? I don't get this problem with any other site. Or is an update likely to have caused my problem?

Hi iko22

Thanks for your reply. Looked in my list of programmes, and it says I have Adobe Flash Player 32 ActiveX. Says installed on 13th March 2019 - so I assume it's up to date. It's version 32.0.0.156.

Don't know if it's significant, but in the programme's name it says '32'. My version of Windows 7 is the 64 bit.

Hello,

Disable the Adobe Flash Player in Internet Options > Browser Add Ons - does that change stop the browser crashing when you visit the Ebay site?

Hello,

Disable the Adobe Flash Player in Internet Options > Browser Add Ons - does that change stop the browser crashing when you visit the Ebay site?

Just tried your suggestion. Unfortunately, it's still crashing. Presuming I didn't need to re-start pc after disabling?

The Adobe add on is the only one I have enabled out of all the add ons.

Disable Active Scripting

Hello,

I have the same problem and I have found a temporary work-around.

If you disable active scripting in internet-options, security tab and adjust level (or something, my computer is in dutch). the error goes away.
I'm still trying to figure out why this is happening.

I'll keep you posted.

Mine does the same thing only with ebay. It is fine until I sign in and then I get a blank white page saying something to the effect of IE closed the window after two tries. The way I get around this is to a- not exit ebay or if I do to b- bring up ebay, view some item, then sign in. If bI sign in from the home page, ebay crashes.

Well that was short lived. Can't get on ebay at all in IE11. IE just closes.

It really worked..................

Dear Technieker.................... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Your FIX did the trick for me on my Windows 7 64 bit Laptop. I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out why, out of the blue, I couldn't keep IE from crashing when going to Ebay. Funny thing is, I have NO PROBLEM with Amazon or other web sites...... Just Ebay. Spent hours searching for a fix....... Then I saw you post here and as soon as I changed Internet Explorer Security setting to a custom level by changing the Active Scripting from Enable to Disable ( or Prompt) ........ BINGO.......... I can open Internet Explorer, type in Ebay.com and it DOESN'T CRASH ANYMORE. MANY, MANY THANKS FOR POSTING YOUR FIX!!!!

Came across the round about way for ebay not to crash IE. https://www.ebay.com/sts So far so good. I even did a live chat with ebay this morning. They have not heard of this and have escalated my concern further up the tech food chain. Let's see how long before they fix it.
