Ok the last few days its been around 68 here in Pittsburgh Im starting to think about turning the heat on last night it was about 50 and I heard about it all night long.

You need to remember that here in the Southern Hinterlands during the summer it is not uncommon to get no lower than 80 degrees overnight so real A/C is a must ... the forecast low of 62 is unheard of this early ... I like it

Today I worked.

You are a real workaholic, Ted! I remember it was only a couple of weeks ago you also told you worked.

I've been playing with Windows 7 built-in speech recognition today. It works surprisingly well, been testing it now in both English and German Windows. Considering I am a non-native speaker of both of those languages and pronounce quite accented, I am totally happy with what I found out and how the speech recognition is working.

No. But I dictated three emails, one in English and two in German. A couple of times I had to say "Undo" and spell the word, but still I have to repeat myself and say it works surprisingly well.

I also tried to dictate one email in Finnish but was not so nice; not having a Finnish version Windows, I have to do it spelling the words letter by letter.

What I forgot to say is that what I mentioned in the last sentence (selecting, copying and pasting in Firefox) was also made using Speech Recognition.

thanks for amusing me, kari

that's not bad - i haven't tried speech-recog for nearly ten years - back then i amused myself by moving the mouse around, and clicking by voice. i remember it worked surprisingly well, even on the limited hardware back then...(i think it was p100, 16 megs ram, win 98 and dragon software, or somesuch).

Real Norton sw saved my ass more than once...

Esp. the NT install, when it said:

Win has detected that OS/2 is installed on this computer.

Win is temporarily disabling the OS/2 Boot Manager during the installation process...

That's when I knew I was in real trouble.
Started the 'disinfection' with Linux boot floppy -- Slackware v.2.3

Took 3 evenings to get back to normal...

Betcha ten bucks the Zenith EISA-486 will boot, after 10 yrs in the cellar...
