Good morning,

I finally figured how to record with the Sound Recorder that was installed on my Win7 computer and then I tried saving about 15 seconds worth of music to Windows>Media to hopefully use as 'start-up music' like I had previously on my old computer running WinXP3.

But when I tried I received this message: You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the Administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the My Music folder instead.

Is there a safe way to save it or is it a no-no?

Thanks and regards,

Where were you trying to save the file to?
Were you able to save the file to the recommanded location?

The Windows\Media folder is part of Windows itself, so it falls under the system protection that's disallowing you from saving files there. You'll need to have an administrator account on your PC; it sounds like you're running as a regular user with limited rights.

That said, it doesn't matter where you save your sound recording, you can use it as a Windows startup sound from any location you wish.

Corazon,

I would be interested in finding out how I could do this (it doesn't matter where you save your sound recording, you can use it as a Windows startup sound from any location you wish.)

I have been searching and searching and I haven't found a way to do it. Just to make myself clear I like to make about a 10-15 second clip from different songs to use as my start-up music.

If you know of a way to do this with Win7 I would really like to know it?

Thanks and regards,

mgp1964,

I was trying to save it to Windows/Media and yes I was able to save it to My Music as it suggested.

Please see Corazon's response (#3) to me.

Thanks and regards,

boohbah,

I really appreciate the link you supplied. I was hoping it wouldn't be quite that complicated (for me ... not for you ...lol)

However, I will check it out in earnest once I get more familiar with Win7.

Thanks and regards,
