Thanks endeavor for still keeping me in mind . Darn, I wish I understood the posts between you & Slartybart .

And I wish there was someone running Home Premium that had success using the batch by EKMantis that would come on board so I'd 'maybe' get a better idea as to whether it's maybe not just that I'm illiterate, maybe something with the way my machine is set? One reason I wonder is that while I was reading the above posts I left the machine for several minutes to take a phone call & when I came back, my screen was black like normal after setting idol for a bit, but this time it took me several tries of moving my mouse before it 'woke up' to the screen so I could post. Actually, I really do wonder if I have something set wrong in IE9 but that's for a different forum.

When I decide to try Slarty's new batch, should I first delete all the folders & files I still have from EKMantis batch? For one thing I'm such an airhead that I'd be afraid of getting mixed up as to who's who. Also wondering if either of you read my post # 1221 & if you know why that happened?

Also, if I remember right, it seems like over the past several days that any folder/file where I click 'Properties', just under 'Open', it says 'Take Ownership'. Does that mean that I was further along in the Mantis batch than I realized?
S'cuse me, I'm probably not making any sense here & am going to have to skip things for today at least, I had to double up on one of my meds & am kinda (more than normal) foggy headed. Will check back tomorrow. Besides that it kinda looks like you 2 are still ironing out a couple things.
Thanks again to both endeavor & Slartybart.

Hi endeavor,
Nope, I still have no desire to install WLM. I see reference to it & all the other 'Live' stuff all thru my PC & have been half tempted to somehow get rid of all of it.

I just realized another oops that I hadn't thought about in my other tries at this & probably best give some serious thought to: I don't have anything for 'imaging' & have only done 1 back up, (just using whatever came with PC) & that was about a month after I bought it. I just never got in the habit of doing it but will have to change that even tho' "it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks".

I have Eudora right now as my email program but not really satisfied with it.

I'm kinda jumping around here .... another thing that confuses me & might have been one of my problems before is not knowing whether I should 'click', 'dbl click', or 'right click', guess I better study up on that too. So. . . . guess I won't get too carried away with Slarty's way until I bone up on simple computer-eze. (don't know if that's a real word)

Hi Slartybart,

Yes, "Thank you" for coming to this forum with some new info. I was about to tear my hair out over my sooo many failed attempts at something that was supposed to be so simple! Of course that's my fault for trying to jump in to do something when I don't even know so many basics of computer use. (boy, I sure use the word 'so' a lot)
Anyway. . . I'll be back but need to study a bit in between my trips out to mow, water, etc. That migt give you & endeavor more time to iron out some things.

Okay I see the problem with grits.. dam it, I should of noticed that before...

I was focusing on all the errors within her cmd box screenshot which were:
subinacl' is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file
...as well as the other ones...

But The problem is what kind of cmd box was she in !!!
As you can see if you look at it (staring me right in the face) it was Not As Administrator! ..and so therefore she had the subinacl error for one thing even though she had the subinacl.exe right there in her folder, and since she is not running as Admin a right click and run as Admin is not going to work at all, thus her errors - she must be coming from C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe in order to have a chance..

Also perhaps you just want to have your zip named 1.zip, that way it's easier to type:
cd %USERPROFILE%\Downloads\1

You see what I'm getting at, something/anything/everything to make it easier.

(grits I can feel it, your time to open WinMail is near, and sorry I didn't catch that issue mentioned earlier. Don't worry about your questions you asked just yet, and don't worry about a partition imager I was only talking to Slarty)

Dang, every time I come here thinking I'll finally do Slarty's thing, I see you two are still working on it . I really, really appreciate it tho' that you're trying to make it easy.! You guys "Rock" !!! Probably best if I quit reading what's back & forth between you two & just be patient another day or so 'cuz most of it is over my head & I'm probably mis-reading some of it anyway. btw, I have done copy/paste before but maybe what you're talking about is different for some reason?

Gotta scoot for now, more yard work to do.
Thanks again guys , pretty soon we can

There might be some things I missed in the many over 1,200 comments that helped others or that I changed based on my testing.

I am willing to take and incorporate feedback on the instructions I wrote after a reader runs through them and experiences a "problem" that was previously resolved or new ones are presented.

Please use private messaging for feedback so the thread doesn't get cluttered with unimportant chatter. Things like "I'd like to see XYZ changed to GHI" are better discussed offline. All feedback will be considered, but WinMail is gone and going further away. The intent was to make it easier to make WinMail work for now. I'll include your feedback on the thread if a fix is made available. Thanks!

There are some things that are beyond fixing - ie hacking CBS.

Peace!

Awesome grits, I'm really proud of you! <very big smile>

fyi, Slarty and I today deleted alot of our posts from the last few days to clean up the back and forth chatter betwen us as we worked things out, and so just in case you see posts missing, that's why.

The new process will work for more people than it even did before.

You did a good job, again, really really proud of you!

Slarty the entry "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Mail\.... you've put in your .bat pointing for all the changes to take place now takes care of what we wanted back when EX-Brit brought up the issue in reply to me that's below it, and that is, with the EKmantis bat what if someone had their installation of a partition other than C:\ it was would miss it, I replied to him below that suggesting a change, and by golly you have it done within your bat, thanks, it covers the problem nicely over what EKMantis had it as hard linked, nice job.

I also wanted to note that on my 7 version of Pro or Ultimate setup 'After' the User Account Control and the likes are disabled, then I can just double click or right click and run as administrator on the .bat from anywhere and it works through fine, but after testing on a fresh install or non-modified 7 setup like grits has with User Control On and all the other annoying supposed security things on, I've found you can Not just double click on the bat and have it work, nor can you just right click on the bat and run as Administrator it won't work either; when EKMantis first supplied his bat I may have suggested that it could, but after recently testing on a fresh install I realized you cannot and it's only after modifications, and so therefore to cover all setups it needs to be that you get them into a real "Administrator" cmd prompt First and then proceed then there will be success in all setups, and I see you have done that already in your tut, nice job.
