Sound Recorder - Open and Use

How to Open and Use Windows 7 Sound Recorder

   Information
Sound Recorder lets you record a sound and save it as an audio file on your computer. This will show you how to open and use Sound Recorder in Windows 7.
   Note
You can record sound from different audio devices, such as a microphone that's plugged into the sound card or motherboard audio line in jack on your computer. The types of audio input sources you can record from depend on the audio devices you have and the input sources on your sound card or motherboard.
   Warning
To use Sound Recorder, you must have a sound card or motherboard with a audio line in jack and speakers installed on your computer. If you want to record sound, you will also need a microphone or some other audio input device.

Here's How:
1. Open the Start Menu, click on All Programs, Accessories folder, and double click on Sound Recorder. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: The Sound Recorder exe file is located at C:\Windows\system32\SoundRecorder.exe.
Step1.jpg

A) Go to step 3.
OR

2. Open the Start Menu, and type soundrecorder in the search line and press Enter. (See screenshot below)
Step2.jpg
3. To Start Recording
A) Click on Start Recording. (See screenshot below)
Step3.jpg
4. To Stop Recording and Save
A) Click on Stop Recording. (See screenshot below)
Step4.jpg
B) Navigate to where you want to save this .wma file, type in a name for the file, then click on the Save button. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: In this Save As window you can also specify information for the Contributing artists name, Album title, or Genre by clicking on each one of them and typing the information before clicking on Save.
Step5.jpg
   Tip
If you decide to continue recording audio instead of saving it to file right now, then click on the Cancel button instead. (See screenshot above)

When ready to continue recording, click on Resume Recording. (See screenshot below)

Step6.jpg

5. When finished, close Sound Recorder. (See screenshot below step 3A)
That's it,
Shawn

When i am using the sound recorder in Windows 7 and i dont want to save what i just recorded, is there a way to delete it without saving it and deleting it? When I stop recording it pops up and asks to save but if I hit cancel it goes back and says resume recording. Also can you replay what you just recorded without saving it. It sure seems cumbersom...

Hello Dr.Krptonite, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sorry, but you will need to save the recording before you will be able to play it back. Luckily the file can just be deleted when done.

Why is volume low?

Hi, I'm using Sound recorder on windows 7 but for some reason when I record, the sound result is low. I'm using a headset microphone and when i set the mic, I spoke as loud as I can and it reached to the top of bar (I also tried normal volume) but when I recorded on sound recorder, I hear the voice very low even on the volume 100. How can I fix this problem? I don't know if it may be my headset's fault seeing I don't know my headset's original product on voice... I hope you can reply to this question fast because I am a very forgetful person and I would probably forget I posted here and I need it fast

Hello TearDroplet, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Double check in Sounds in the Control Panel (Icons view), then look in the Recording tab, double click on your default recording device (Microphone) with the green circle checkmark icon. Next, look in the Levels tab to see if you have an option to increse the DB level or like one below of the microphone to help make it louder.

It helped a little. Thanks for the fast reply. I decided to use a different program in the end but had the same problem XD. Your advice helped better with the new program though

You're welcome TearDroplet. I'm glad to hear that it works better for you with the other program. You might check through all of your separate sound and microphone levels to see if their may be a level setting that may be the culprit somewhere to help it sound better.

vinyl conversion

does the Sound Recorder allow me to transfer vinyl records to my computer? I have a turntable, as well as USB cord.

Hello Goldendusty, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If the turntable has a way of connecting to the audio input of your computer, then you should be able to. You may need to enable What U Hear recording as well though.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello Beestra, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Here's a copy of SoundRecorder.exe from my system in the ZIP file below that you can use. You would just need to download the ZIP, extract (drag and drop) the EXE file from the ZIP to your desktop, unblock the EXE file, then copy the EXE into your C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Sound Recorder will record until either you hit the stop button, or until you run out of hard drive space.

Hope this helps, :)
