    Another Windows 7 build 7601 " This copy of windows is not genuine"


    This system was working fine until today,
    It now shows that " this copy of windows is not genuine" in the bottom right corner of the desktop
    This is not the original windows that came with the machine
    The system originally came with Windows 7 pro
    It now has windows 7 enterprise 64bit

    You've almost certainly been using a Registry Cleaner - probably WiseFixer - and this has 'uninstalled' the Software Protection Service in its usual cavalier fashion.
    UNDO all 'repair' operations this tool has done, using its own undo options, then uninstall it.
    Then post back with a new MGADiag report, and we'll set about fixing the rest.

    ...on the subject of the Emterprise/Pro change, I find it a little difficult to understand how that could happen without your knowledge.
    Has the machine been in for repair at some point? have you loaned it out to anyone? Have you a relative who may have 'upgraded' the system with a works license?
    The installed Key is a KMS key - and until we get the the Software Protection Service functional again, it's not possible to easily see what the activation status is. KMS Keys require re-activation at least every 180 days against the KMS Host Server owned by the organisation whose license is in use.

    There are theoretically, ways to 'downgrade' the system, but I have my doubts about them, and the only supported way to do it is to reformat and reinstall - preferably using the manufacturer's Recovery media, since this contains all required drivers.

    i don't see any installed registry cleaner on the system,
    not sure if someone else has used one in hopes of doing whatever they thought they were doing

    the system was purposely upgraded so it wasn't done without knowledge

    Is there any other way of getting the Software Protection Service running again ?

    OK then - let's see if what I suspect is correct.

    Please open an Elevated (Administrator) Command Prompt window and use the following commands....

    net start sppsvc
    sc qc sppsvc
    sc queryex sppsvc
    sc qprivs sppsvc
    sc qsidtype sppsvc
    sc sdshow sppsvc

    post the responses in your reply

    Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Windows, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

    entered the first line, hit enter and received the following message:
    The Service Name is Invalid

    You should get Success responses after each line of code

    when complete, reboot


    test the outcome (MGADiag should now report properly on the state of the license)

    Glad it worked for you - please run the SC QC VSS as I have seen cases where that too has been 'helpfully' removed at the same time as the SPPSVC.
