Vista Calendar in Win7 and above
I’ve been trying to hang on to this calendar ever since the release of Windows 7. With the exception of the “Search” feature, following these guides, I’ve been able to keep it going and fully functional for the life span of Windows 7. However, with the release of Windows 8, 8.1 and now 10, I have been unable to keep reminders working. The changes that M$ made to the UAC interface seem to have broken the reminders. What I’ve have discovered in my days of research is that by checking the “Run with highest privileges” option in the task scheduler, the calendar reminders actually work with one “Big” exception, any new task added by the wincal.exe (i.e. Snooze for 5 minutes) does not carry forward the checked option so, new reminders will not run. If you manually change that setting, the task will run with no errors. If we disable the UAC function, the calendar and reminders work perfectly. Unfortunately, there is a horrible side effect. With UAC disabled, you cannot run any of the Metro Apps (i.e. calculator, Edge, etc.) and you can’t make any changes under the Personalize options. There is a setting that can be used to get these apps back but, again disabling the reminders.
P.S. for those who may want to install the calendar in Windows 10, there is an app called Missed Features Installer10 – MFI10 that will do all the necessary installation process for you. You still have to create the reminder task to start the reminders working but the program will do the rest.
SO, all that said, does anyone have a way to beat the UAC in Windows 10 to allow the reminders in the Task Scheduler to properly create task to run in the elevate mode.
