First ever Post I think (memory at 77 not brilliant): with updates first received error 0x8024402C.
Tried lots advice from different sites: regarding Proxy etc.; CHKDSK; Repair from installation CD; SFC /scannow; produced sfcdetails.txt;today ran KB947821.
following 947821 tried updates again this time Code 66A unknown error.
Produced CBs.zip but it's 19.3MB so I'm attaching (I hope!) an SFC SCANNOW.zip which I hope, in my ignorance, contains the uncorrected Corrupt files.
Hope I've everything correct only at my advanced senility .....

These are not errors as such - MS says they are the result of miscoding the files in a couple of updates as being static rather than variable.
You can either leave them alone, or uninstall the updates concerned - KB3022345 and KB3068708

As far as your WU problems are concerned, we need at least the CheckSUR.log and CheckSUR.Persist.log files, together with the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.

I've uploaded a file - hihaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive

Please download and save it.

Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…

Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder hihaa in the same place.

Open this folder- there should be one folder inside it (Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to thefolder

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Again, help much appreciated - one problem, probably my ignorance .....

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

What or where is a CheckSUR tool?

The CheckSUR tool is the one which produces the CheckSUR.log file - AKA the SURT tool System Update Readiness Tool) or KB947821 - which you downloaded earlier.

Hi again,

Just a further problem which might relate in some way to the current sequence - if it doesn't I might be starting a new thread eventually.
For some time now I've had problems copying videos from disk to disk: I've had to go back into AVS4YOU and re-export them. Today I found that my TV is failing to open newly mounted jpegs (from a memory stick), all the older jpegs no problem. This seems to have begun as far as the jpegs are concerned last April.

Just thought I should mention this in case it is related: it's rather odd in that the jpegs are OK on different disks within my desktop, also on my Tablet, but the videos are a problem between disks on my desktop.

If this has nothing to do with the UpDate problem OK, but just in case .....

Hi NoelDP,

No, I didn't receive any error message but I thought it best to repeat the last series of actions.

I went back to your zip file and, whereas previously I had just clicked the packages contents with 'copy to' ... and then copied the log files, today I actually opened the Temp\CheckSUR\Servicing\Packages before executing the 'copy to' command.

There was a difference between the two sets of files: yesterday's files read:

x86~~6.1.0.1.cat x86~~6.1.0.1.mum

today's x86~6.1.0.1.cat x86~6.1.0.1.mum

I removed the ~~ files and saved them with OLD at the end of each and then re-copied the log files which are attached.

Hopefully ?????

Those ones are left over from the first attempt - where I bungled the name - they shouldn't make any difference, and didn't succeed this time either, since CheckSUR simply ignores them.

I suspect that the problem lies in the registry, but I'm rather at a loss as to where!

Let's try this...

Please download SFCFix from here... http://www.sysnative.com/niemiro/apps/SFCFix.exe and save it to your desktop (we'll need it later anyhow, I think)

Once saved, double-click on it and accept the warnings. It'll run, and create a file SFCFix.log on the desktop - please upload it to your reply.

HELLO is there anyone there?

I just want to check if anything is happening: it's now a week since I sent the SFCFix text and your last post did suggest that there would be some follow up i.e. 'later' in quote below.

"Please download SFCFix from here... http://www.sysnative.com/niemiro/apps/SFCFix.exe and save it to your desktop (we'll need it later anyhow, I think)"

If things are being progressed and just taking time then forgive my insecurity but some reassurance would be excellent ......

If so that would be excellent - BUT - I don't wish to create any undue pressure: as long as I'm not forgotten ....

Incidentally, KB2604121 & 2468871 have now been joined by 3035583.

KB3035583 is the Windows 10 nag/upgrade offer - you could always hide that if you don't want to upgrade to Win 10 ;)

Let's have a look at your registry - maybe there's a problem there that I'm not picking up on.
I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.
