Windows 7 Not Genuine error on Alienware M15X

Hello
I am restarting an old alienware M15X having the original Dell Windows 7 Pro updated with SP1.
I have replaced the original hard disk (500Go) with a new SSD (1T).
After making a disk clone using clonezilla with success, the original disk just crashed having bad sectors.
The labtop reboots sucessfully with the new SDD. All is OK.
The System Configuration Panel indicates that Windows is activated. There is no activation requested.

But sometimes the popup panel "windows is not genuine" appears with the error 0x8004FE21

slmgr /rilc command is ok but has no effect.

Note that the KB971033 is installed.

The report is showing me 2 different things
ID Type 2 (tells me its looking for the Dell default product key)
BUT
the product key is not the W7 Pro Dell default


As this is an intermittant fault the fix i am proposing must be used when in the Non-genuine state

The product key in use is likely the OEM sticker key, Type 8, and that your licencing store has become corrupted
please follow theese instructions

Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear.

The windows 7 is the genuine OEM version installed by Dell when the PC has been purchased.

The "System Configuration Panel" indicates always that Windows is activated. So there is no activation requested.

I have the product key and the activation key.

The problem has been appeared after I have changed the original hard disk by a new SSD I have cloned from the original.

Using your procedure do you think Windows will be reactivated with the product key or the activation key ? An can be processed off line ?

To add, I understand that Microsoft has removed Windows 7 activation either on line or by phone (server has been closed).
Is it possible that after the reset, I won't be able to activate it at all ?

No the server has not been closed thats why your getting the non-genuine
As i said previously the key reported is NOT correct for that Product Type ID
(is it the key from the OEM sticker?? - in the battery compartment)

The instructions rebuild the files in the licencing folder (Software Protection Platform)
Its also showing as Tampered and an invalid slic table
It does not require the product key to be re-input
The SLUI.exe command will require you to be on-line

at a guess i would say that this has been caused by the bad sector issue you had
depending on Clonezilla settings - Bad sectors can be carried over or not

i suggest you also run
sfc /scannow

OK, thanks. I'll do the procedure at the end of this month (I'm on the move now) and let you know the result. Otherwise, I've checked the partitions and the sectors on the SSD and everything seems OK.
