Basic and Dynamic Disks>>> http://goo.gl/Ap4jr
its not working!! when i tried to enter into boot folder it says "CHDIR FAILED FOR BOOT".. what to do now.. how will i recover my files..
Here is a past post from our resident expert GREGROCKER (which I can not link to for some reason). Some important info. please read:
"To convert a Dynamic Disk back to Basic is a destructive process. You could also try a program like RECUVA instead of the cut and paste method mentioned above.
First try to copy your data out using Repair CD:
Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console
System Repair Disc - Create
If your computer came preinstalled with Windows 7, it may have protection on the Recovery partition so you can still run it from boot to convert and reimage the HD. Try tapping the key given on first boot screen for Run Factory Recovery. Or look in your setup literature or Manual on the Support Downloads webpage for your computer model.
Otherwise you will need to order Recovery Disks from manufacturer, or find any retail copy of Windows 7 to unlock all versions to reinstall your licensed version using the Product Key on COA sticker:
Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create
Clean Install Windows 7
Once you're ready to run Recovery Disks or Clean Reinstall Windows 7 from booted installer, boot the DVD or Repair CD, press Shift F10 to open a Command Line and type the commands given here to convert the Dynamic Disk back to Basic: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...15(WS.10).aspx "
But the important point is to recover your data first!
the copy and paste function won't work as i cant read any hard disk on my computer.. same is the case with windows system repair disc!!! i think i will have to part with my data!! but does reformating the disc convert the disc automatically into basic or should i do it explicitly..??
You will need to be working with a recovery program that specifically says it can work with Dynamic Disks. Don't jump the gun until you have exhausted all your possibilities.
I'm not sure about RECUVA, but I know that Acronis True Image Home comes with a Plus Pack that has that functionality. You could download and install both programs on a trial basis on another computer, then burn a bootable disk that you can use on the problem computer without an operating system.
But if you are willing to lose it all, then yes, you need to convert to a basic disk, then format and start over from scratch.
i installed a fresh copy!! its sad that i had to part with all the data but atleast my lappy is working now!!! thanks a lot guys for the support!! u guys rock!!
