Problems Booting and Installing Windows
So I'm attempting to help fix my friends computer, its a Gateway NV series running windows 7, not 100% sure what the model number is.
The problem is when I try to boot the computer, I get a window saying:
"Start Up Repair
Windows cannot repair this computer automatically
If you have recenly attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you contiunue to see this message, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Click finish to exit and shut down your computer."
There's two options above the FINISH and CANCEL buttons: "View diagnostic and repiar details" which opens a window saying:
"Startup repair diagnosis and repair log
Last successful boot time: some date, number of repair attempts: 23
Session Details - System Disk = \Device\Harddisk0
Windows directory = C:\Windows
Autochk Run = 0
Number of root causes = 1"
and the other option is "view advance options for system recovery and support", but none of the options here do too much.
I was given a windows 7 upgrade disc and a windows 7 drivers and software disc. I tried booting for the upgrade disc but that didn't work. So I downloaded a version of windows 7 and burnt it to a dvd and tried to boot from that, but that didnt work either. So I tried to boot to ubuntu from the cd to backup all his files, and that worked.
I need a way to get windows 7 back on this computer... please help!
