How to Set Game Restrictions in Windows 7 Parental Controls
Information
Using Parental Controls, you can control access to games, choose an age-rating level, choose the types of content you want to block, and decide whether you want to allow or block unrated or specific games for standard user accounts.
Note
Parental Controls can be set to block most games. However, if your computer doesn't recognize a game, it won't be blocked by Parental Controls. If you discover an unblocked game, you can manually add the game to the list of
blocked specific programs in Parental Controls instead.
Here's How:
1. Open the
Control Panel (All Items view), and click on
Parental Controls.
2. If prompted by
UAC, then click on
Yes.
3. In the left pane, click on the
Game Rating Systems link. (see screenshot below)
4. Select (dot) the games rating system that you want to use, and click on
OK. (see screenshot below)
NOTE: This is applied to all standard user accounts that have Parental Controls turned on and with game restrictions set for them below.
5. Select and click on the listed
standard user account that you want to use Parental Controls to set game restrictions on. (see screenshot below)
6. Turn on Parental Controls for this standard user account if it is not already turned on for it.
7. Under
Windows Settings, click on the
Games link. (see screenshot below)
8. To Block All Games for the Selected Standard Account
A) Under
Can (Standard account's user name) play games?, select (dot)
No. (see screenshot below)
B) Go to step 12.
9. To Block Games by Age Rating for the Selected Standard Account
A) Under
Can (Standard account's user name) play games?, select (dot)
Yes. (see screenshot above)
B) Under
Block (or allow) games by rating and content types, click on the
Set game ratings link. (see screenshot above)
C) Under
If a game has no rating, can Standard account play it?, select (dot) to
allow or
block games with no rating. (see screenshot below)
D) Under
Which ratings are ok for* person's name* to play?, select (dot) a ratings level. (see screenshot above)
E) Continue on to step 10.
10. To Block Games by Content for the Selected Standard Account
A) Under Can (Standard account's user name) play games?, select (dot) Yes. (see screenshot below step 8A)
B) Under Block these types of content, select (check) all of the content types that you want to block. (see screenshot below 9C)
C) Go to step 12.
11. To Block or Allow Specific Games for the Selected Standard Account
A) Under
Can (Standard account's user name) play games?, select (dot)
Yes. (see screenshot below step 8A)
B) Under
Block (or allow) any game on your computer by name, click on the
Block or Allow specific games link. (see screenshot below step 8A)
C) In the alphabetical list of games on your computer, select (dot) to either use
User Rating Setting,
Always Allow,
Always Block to control access for each game. (see screenshot below)
D) When done, click on
OK. (see screenshot above)
12. Click on
OK. (see screenshot below 9C)
13. Close the Parental Controls window. (see screenshot below step 7)
