Crashes on 64bit

On 3/23 I installed Realtek Audio HiDef Driver R2.42 and my system started to crash. I had been up on original Microsoft drivers with no issues (except that recording devices are disabled). I had also downloaded Pandora One 24 demo.
With the crashes I uninstalled Pandora One. Still crashing two days later. On 3/26 I then went to rollback to the Microsoft drivers and lo and behold, it was Realtek drivers. Stupid me I didn't get the version. I then went and did an Update Driver and I'm getting Realtek 2/8/2010 version 6.0.1.6043. I'm still crashing (5 times on 3/28). I went to Realtek's site and downloaded a newer version R2.45. I've been crashing at least once a day if not more.
I'm including the latest dmp from today and the two xml files of my system info. I have dmps and xml's from 3/25.
Now I'm suspecting Realtek as it was the latest add and all the posts on Realtek drivers. But any help is appreciated. especially recommendations.

I don't have a backup but I will. Good thing to do with all the BSOD's anyway.
I DO have a Win 7 DVD
Reading about Driver Verifier there is some bad experience with it. Is that old versions. What expectations should I have with it? Are there other options to get to the root?

The advice that you were given re Driver Verifier is the suggested course of action. It is up to you to decide to continue or not.

I'm running verifier now.
The link Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Drivers mentions to zip up the memory dump file. Is this the same dump file in the Windows\minidump directory or is there another one?
Carl CP,
You say that you are currently running Driver Verifier........... Note where the instructions say -

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you are still not clear please let us know.

Could you please upload all of the minidump files located in C:\Windows\Minidump? I'd like to see if usbhub.sys is the probable cause of all of them. That is, of course, if the Driver Verifier doesn't give us any answers.

JMH,
Sorry, my statement was unclear. What I meant to say was that I followed the instructions in using verifier, following the link and instructions of Capt Jack Sparrow. What I was asking is, once the system crashes, what dump file, where is it. I'm assuming it is in the \windows\minidump directory still?
To both JMH and DT Roberts.
I have had two crashes with Verifier enabled. I am attaching a zip with all of the dump files in my \windows\minidump directory. The last two, 6:14 PM and 11:36 PM on 4/3/2010 are with Verifier enabled.
Let me know if there is another dump file I should be providing.
Carl

Yes, the dump created by the Driver Verifier will be located in the same folder as the rest. Just go by date to find which one it is.

Thanks for the files.

None of them are 0xC4 - the standard Driver Verifier minidump. That means that the either the DV doesn't find any errors or it isn't even getting a chance to find the fault. What is plugged into USB? Have you tried unplugging everything? Also, download and install the latest chipset drivers from ASUS's website. Let us know if it helps.

On the minidumps. I turned Verifier off after the two crashes and dumps with it on. I could turn it on and get more if you think that would help. Oddly though, I haven't had a single crash since 4/5/10 8:46pm or after I turned Verifier off. I'm sure just coincidence and just a mater of time.
To your questions. connected to my USB:

  • I have two cables that I plug camera or usb stick, the other my iPhone/iPod. Most of the time nothing on them and never when the crashes have occurred.
  • I have a HP Photosmart Premium printer/scanner. Bought and connected March 6th. Crashes didn't start till around 3/26.
  • I have a M-Audio Fast Track Ultra - used for sending audio and midi signals to computer for Digital Recording. It's been installed since January 31st.
And no, I have not tried unplugging everything. Since you mentioned on 4/3 about the *usbhub.sys* I'm gathering that you are thinking that a suspect.

To the install of the ASUS chipset drivers. I downloaded the latest but I want to review the readme and figure out how to determine the version of what I have installed before going forward.

Given the crashes and all, I also don't want to do more then one thing at a time or I'll never know what the cause or fix was. I almost want the crashes to come back before I do anything. In the mean time if you have recommendations, I'm all ears. I haven't rebooted in a while so I'm going to do that and see if it crashes over night. Otherwise I'm going to review the chipset read me and figure out what it's talking about. I'll post back when I think I'm ready to install the chipset drivers.

Just a drive by.

I would do a system file check
(type sfc in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and "/")

Let us know the results

Ken,
SFC Reported the following
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
I'm attaching the CBS.log file. I find "Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"M1033DSK.CSD" but I'm not sure if that is the only file nor am I sure the best way to resolve the problem or if there are other items in the report that should be considered

I finally had a couple more crashes. First since 4/5/2010. One yesterday running iTunes and streaming audio through airport Express and this morning listening to Pandora and reading up on ASUS chipset installation readme.
I went to check iTunes version and there was an update for both iTunes and Airport express. I did an update to those. I also ran the chipset installation. (after creating a restore point)
Curious that audio was playing both times I crashed. But I know that wasn't the cause on alot of the other crashes as it was happening over night with nothing going.
