Lag with video games

Hi all, I really like the new operating system alot, but I've never had a problem with my games like this before. All my video games either steam related or other. I'd start up my game and for seven minutes or so they run fine, normal fps for my copmuter and what I've always had, then after eight minutes of playing I get very low fps and lag for ten seconds maybe every twenty seconds. I've done what I've read in a nother thread, switched to an earlier combatibility and disable those two features and run as administrator. Nothing has worked and I'd like a solution please.
Thanks for your help.

What exactly did you try in another thread?

Pinstripe posted this fix, which has worked wonders for many:

Leave the multimedia class scheduler service running, but disable its network throttling "feature":

  • Open regedit
  • Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile
  • There will be an entry for network performance throttling, default value is 10; set it to FFFFFFFF hex (willl look like 0xFFFFFFFF to the right of the entry)
  • Reboot

I'm still waiting to hear what exactly you did and with what settings the machine has now? It does not sound like an overwhelming problem, but we've got to know our starting point... so tell us.

Are these older or newer games? Have you tried running them in XP compatibility mode?

I think I have but I'll give that a shot. The games are Crysis and it's editor and The Orange box games

EDIT: Didn't change anything

Crysis on a 9400M? GIve up, that laptop will barely play DirectX9 games - update your drivers but that probably won't help much.

I really just use the editor that comes with it and it's worked fine for me in medium graphics settings. But it seems like this problem with games is happening with a lot of people, and not just on super high graphics games. All my Half Life 2 games can run fine accept with my problem.

P.S I use about 45% of all the space on my copmuter

I've installed the new drivers, but should I still run in all the combatibility modes?

Try compatiblity mode with Vista SP1 and Running as Administrator. I don't think you need any extra options. Disable any unessential background processes too.
