How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

Okay-dokey. Maybe.

Rebooted, removed the final Win10 KB from installed updates. Rebooted.

The stupid SysTray thing is still there, but none of the GWX files appear in the installed updates list. They DO all appear in the Hidden Updates list. None appear (once I'd hidden that last just-removed GWX one from the "Important Updates" list) in the Updates list.

So. I'll see how it goes.

Thanks for your help, Brds7t7; and for your try Magoo...

If it comes back, I'll be back. (I'm not actually the 'just a couple (12 now) messages completely new member' in my ID at left ... my old ID and password didn't connect, and I no longer have that old, old email address, so I made a new 'self' here.)

After this last reboot, these two RE-appeared in the installed list:
KB2952664
KB3021917

So, deleted the first one and rebooted as Windows asked.

Well. The RegSweep and reboot (and removal of the one) DID remove all my "hidden" updates -- all of which were these Win 10 things. Re-hid them. Rebooted.

Have now dele... uninstalled the second one, and will reboot, as Windows is asking.

Fingers crossed!

Really strange that they keep coming back. The only one I had issues with was KB2952664, which is the update I had to uninstall twice. But after that it didn't come back and I was able to hide it.

That one seems to have disappeared from my hidden updates now, think it's been superseded by one of the latest ones that showed up. Seems to have a similar description.

That list just keeps on growing! :D

Hi its me again, This whole situation is becoming very sticky.
I wish M$ would accept our right to use the software we paid for and stop pushing what they want and stuff what we the consumer want.

I think KB3045999 is a renamed clone of KB3068708.

Please confirm and add to the list and I will delete this KB if not needed.

We all help each other and it is all so great, thank You.

KB3045999 is a security update so it's safe to install.

KB3068708 is the Diagnostic and Telemetry update so that's the one to skip.

I can't see KB3045999 on my list of updates though, it may have been superseded by a more recent one?

Ignore that....just found it. Definitely a security update so it's ok to install :D

I`ve had that installed since 5/14 and you are just getting it now ?

After reading up on it again, I may uninstall it, I don`t like any of that telemetry junk on my pc.

I just did an install on my Gateway test machine, installed every update except KB2923545

It installed KB3068708 but not KB3045999 and it`s done updating. So yes they may be one in the same.

Haha, it's okay. These updates lately have been annoying as they keep coming back with different numbers.

But KB3045999 is definitely the one you want. Security updates should never be skipped.

W10 upgrade updates

Do the following to check if an update is installed:

  1. Tap on the Windows-key, type cmd and hit enter.
  2. Type powershell and hit enter.
  3. Use the command get-hotfix -id KB3035583 to find out whether the update is installed
  4. To speed things up, query for all updates in a single command like this:
    get-hotfix -id KB3035583,KB2952664,KB2976978,KB3021917,KB3044374,KB2990214,KB3022345

Hi there, I tried your steps above but ran into an issue with cmd as it gave me nothing to indicate whether or not any of those update had been installed or not. So I tried with PowerShell and the command you provided gave me what I attached as an image.

I will be executing the remaining commands for removal but I need to know if there is anything else I should know before-hand.

Thank you much and hope to hear from you soon.

It would get an error screen like you did on your first try in red showing updates not installed but according to NoelDP the only update that should be skipped is KB3035583 if you are not upgrading to windows 10.

Code:
PS C:\Users\user name> [COLOR=Red]get-hotfix -id KB3035583,KB2952664,KB2976978,KB3021917,KB3044374,KB2990214,KB3022345
Get-HotFix : This command cannot find hot-fix on the machine 'localhost'. Verify the input and Run your command again.

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 using Dell re-installation disk (Dell sent me one). I also use Free Macrium reflect backup and restore.
Addram in another thread, I am asking a questioning on KB3050265 if it should be installed because it fixes other issues. Those others updates didn't fix other known problems with windows 7 you could tell they were specific to windows 10 upgrade. I am going to try installing KB350265 soon.

KB3050265 is an update to the windows update agent files and is classed as Optional. An earlier version of this is KB2990214. It's entirely up to you if you want to install. But these look like updates to Windows Update so you can install the 10 upgrade through WU.

I've skipped both but it's up to you.
