Well there's some slight evidence showing that there was a different type of life on Earth long before our "generation of life", when the Earth was a ball of molten lava, back when there wasn't even an atmosphere. It was just bacteria, but they believe it had a different type of DNA string to ours. If a single planet can have two "life cycles" then the chance of other planets out there having life has to be fairly certain...
Among all this as well, there's theories that the amino acids that began our "life" actually came from Mars (stray chunks of Mars that drifted away from meteor collisions) and comets that hit our Earth :huh:
