I constantly have to Activate Windows...

Hi! I am relatively new to Windows 7 as I just bought my new Asus laptop this summer. I love it so far but for some reason, I am CONSTANTLY forced to phone in and activate it. When I do finally go through the tedious process of activating, it tells me that my copy of Windows is genuine and I'm good to go. But then like 2 days later, it tells me I must then activate it again, and I get a message on my desktop saying Windows is not genuine (Build 7600).
Am I doing something wrong?

I would first determine where you got your laptop from... Like a computer swapmeet or something? The fact you are reactivating your windows within 2 days suggests it thinks it has a KMS activation and needs to re-authorize somewhere every 2 days or so, which doesn't seem right as that should be more of a corporate level re-activation setup.

Sorry, I should've specified. I bought my laptop brand new off of Newegg.ca. I've tried several troubleshooting methods, but the concensus is usually that it will work for a few days after I activate it and then I will start getting notifications again to call MS and activate once more. Those notifications will maintain for a few days and then my wallpaper will disappear and I will get the non-genuine windows thing again. As soon as I call, enter my activation key and then copy their number down, it tells me my copy is genuine... but then stops after a few days.

If indeed you have a new computer purchased with Win 7 on it, & are still having problems with activation after trying all of the above - I would suggest you contact the supplier to seek further advice under terms of the warranty.
If the Win 7 installation is genuine you should not be having ongoing activation problems.

I second the above opinion because new OEM computers contain a recovery partition usually D. and most manufacturers also recommend making recovery disks (clone of recovery partition) after first start up of which contains a pre-activated version of windows along with all the crapware the OEM provides and this is what you would see the very first time you started your computer.

There is only 2 things I can think of that may be causing reactivation issues. 1: when installing for the first time or using the recovery disks or recovery partition you the customer must accept/agree to 2 separate EULA , 1 from Microsoft & 1 from Computer manufacturer.

2: The computer contains a faulty image ( eg: wrong version of image for your computer which occurred during manufacturing process ) in which case I would follow JMH's advice and contact the supplier and or manufacturer immediately to discuss repair or replacement of defective product while it is still under warranty

Press the windows key and the pause/break key. What does it say for Windows edition at the top of the screen. If it says Enterprise that is your problem. I can't see newegg selling you a laptop with the Enterprise version on it, but it won't hurt to check and make sure.
Have you installed any programs to modify your boot screen, logon screen, or something to let you run custom themes? If a system file was altered the WGA utility may be flagging that file as hacked and thinking your windows install isn't legit. Another possibility is your PC is infected with something that is screwing around with an important system file.
I think I would run the system recovery program and restore it back to factory condition. Backup any files you want to keep because this will erase everything when you do it.
What does Microsoft have to say when you call in to activate it yet again?

I do use an Asus program that changed the boot screen to a custom image but it came pre-built. I reaaaally don't want to do a whole system restore with the disks. When I call, its just the automated voice system that is like fill in the blanks kind of thing. You read it a number, it reads you one. Takes about 3 minutes.

We have given our best suggestions to you on how to activate Windows 7.
So what now do you plan to do?

If all methods above are failing. Then I would suggest backing up data and start from scratch by reinstalling windows.

it is possible that the activation stuff in the OS might be corrupted.

If you do that and are still having the issues, then you need to talk to live support with MS and explain and see what they say, or go to the people you bought it from and see what they will do under warranty.

I would not do a restore or other modifications. If you try those and then take it to back to the dealer, they might give you a hassle. As others have said on this thread, get it corrected by the dealer while your warranty is still in place.
