---If you came to this post from searching, please note that I'll be removing this message and replacing it with the solution in a bold font if one is found. If you are currently seeing this message, then there hasn't been a solution found for me yet - just thought I'd put that message there because when I search for answers, it's annoying having to fish through threads :p ---

Hi there,

I just replaced my last wifi card tonight due to my GPU's drivers clashing with it and now I can't get this wifi card to work - It's the NetGear WG311v3, if anybody can find the solution, I'll give you a shoutout on my youtube channel :P.

Okay, so here is what happens, I have tried the CD and latest software download from NetGear.com and the same thing happens:

I install the software, it then says, to continue installing the hardware, please power off, ground yourself, insert the PCI card and reboot. Once you've rebooted, please continue on with the wizard.

I follow the instructions yet when I reboot, the wizard never comes back up, I try double clicking the installer, inserting the CD, everything, it just takes me back to step 1.

I've done a bit of research and found these Marvell drivers, also tried the steps on this link: WG311v3 WORKING w/ 64-bit Kernel - Ubuntu Forums but this doesn't work either, I've tried multiple ways of getting the .inf installed too and Windows says "The INF file you selected does not support this method of installation".

So anyway, I've been trying for hours and I can't really take this wifi card back - plus, I'm already behind in work and need to get this computer setup. Thanks SO much in advance!

EDIT: (2009-5-15 11:37PM GMT+10) Trying DriverMax, thankfully I have a wifi USB dongle that works on win7 and can use drivermax (I think)
EDIT: (2009-5-16 12:14AM GMT+10) Well DriverMax isn't allowing me to register, so there goes that idea.

Specs are listed in my profile if you need them.

I'm sure that with the inf files on the netgear CD or web site you can install the driver. Try again, tell me where you block.

I right click and hit "Install" on the .inf file and Windows says "The INF file you selected does not support this method of installation".

The CD doesn't have an inf file that I can see, it might be embedded inside the installer.

Ok then go from the device manager, and hit "Update driver" on the netgear item and tell Windows to search into your folder containing the INF. Do you have the same message?

As I said, it's not getting to that stage, it installs the smart wizard software and then tells me to shutdown, insert the card and when I reboot continue wit the hardware installation but it never loads the installer DX

Chris, So have you removed the card and re-inserted it to be sure that it is seated firmly in its slot?

Yes, many times. When I reboot, it never loads the driver installer back up like it says it will.

Chris I have been googleing your adapter and some this one says he solve a problem with some other drivers. from google

Inspite of installing the driver provided from Netgear WG311 install the driver of "Marvell Libertas 802.11b/g Wireless". It works perfect for me. Here is the link for you:

I managed to find a download link, it's the same thing I tried earlier :( no luck, still the same errors - I tried the installer and it didn't install the drivers - only the software.

What I'm telling you is skip the smart wizard software. Go to Device Manager, with your card plugged in, and click on it, it should be with a yellow exclamation or a red X. Tell windows to update the driver, don't choose automatically because Windows won't know where your driver is. Do a manual selection. If you don't know how to do that, tell me.

Ok, if you don't see your device then you probably have a hardware problem. You can still try to show hidden devices. In the device manager, you have a "View" menu, you should see the option there.
