Solved XBCD drivers for Xbox 360 gamepad

I am running Windows 7 RC (7100) x64 and trying to install XBCD. I've been an XBCD user since the 360 came out and ppl were hacking drivers together. Never had problems under XP.

I'm really liking Windows 7 RC so far, and would like to use it as my main OS. However I need to use XBCD because I cannot play racing games with the default MS drivers. I must have seperate trigger axis and rumble/deadzone control.

I tried installing 0.2.6 drivers but nothing works. I install it, but the XBCD util doesnt start. No errors or anything it just doesnt work. The control panel entry doesnt work either. I cant update drivers for HID/Xbox driver in device manager. Under device manager, I have HID-Compliant Game Controller and USB Input Device which says the location is Xbox 360. I dont know which one I'm supposed to try to update.

I realize vista/7 has driver signing. I am in Test mode thanks to a util called Driver Signature Enforcement Overider Tool. But no matter what I simply cannot install this driver. Either Im not doing it right (no clear instructions available) or it simply doesnt work under Windows 7 (or Vista x64 either).

So what can I do? Is anyone running Windows 7 x64 with XBCD? I really need to install this driver because I'm considering downgrading to XP just to have it, its that important for me. It would be so nice if MS would simply release drivers with built in deadzone settings and make the triggers on seperate axis. Then all this wouldnt be necessary. But until then I'd love to figure this all out. I'm really like Windows 7 and would like to keep it. Thanks for any help!

Ok so I followed the directions posted on the bottom of this thread: XBCD - XBox Controller Driver Forum -> Xbcd360 Drivers For Xp/2003 X64 And Vista 32/64

I rebooted, hit F8 and went into test mode. This is weird because I already enabled it through that util I downloaded but whatever. When I goto device manager, XBCD finally shows up with no errors it seems.

However, if I goto Device and Printers page, and goto Game Controller Settings, it says I have a Mad Catz 4516. This is wrong, as I have the normal 360 gamepad. When I goto calibration its all over the place, the triggers and thumbstick dont work, and all the buttons just light up all over the place.

I also cannot launch the XBCD setup utility at all. I click and click on the icon in Control Panel but nothing comes up. I dont think theres anything there frankly.

So I'm almost there. If I can figure out how to use the drivers without having to use F8 all the time, and calibrate it properly I'd be very happy.

Now XBCD setup utility work fine.

Well I went back to XP shortly after this post was made. However I upgraded my PC and got a new laptop, and decided to throw W7 RC 64bit back on.

I have tried the steps posted above, but it still does not work. Heres what I did.

Downloaded 0.2.6 XBCD from Squall drivers.

Installed DSEO util, set OS to test mode. Rebooted.

Ran XBCD installer as admin, chose to install certificate as well.

Opened DSEO and signed xbcd.sys, rebooted again.

Went to Device Manager, and it still says "HID Compliant Device".

If I try to update driver, I dont see XBCD in compatible devices. If I uncheck the Show Compatible drivers, XBCD is listed. If I choose to install XBCD for 360 Gamepad driver, it will BSoD, xbcd.sys being the culprit.

The XBCD setup util doesnt work (it loads, but no gamepads are found). This is driving me crazy, as I wish there were step by step instructions for getting these drivers to work for Windows 7 64bit.

SUCCESSORY!

Well I finally have it working, and for posperity I'm going to post the steps here, because thread is one of the most popular hits when you type "XBCD Windows 7" on google, and given the views I suspect a few ppl are going through what I went though, so here is how I did it:

Install Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider 1.3b, choose "Test Mode" and reboot.

Install the 0.2.6 drivers from XBCD - XBox Controller Driver Forum -> Latest 0.2.6 Version

Run the driver installer as Administrator, installing only drivers. Dont bother installing the certificate. Reboot.

Run DSEO again, hit Sign System File, then type "C:\windows\system32\drivers\xbcd.sys". Reboot again.

Open Device Manager, look for "Microsoft Common Controller For Windows Class", and goto properties for "Xbox 360 Controller".

Goto Driver tab, and click "Update Driver". Click on "Browse my Computer for Driver software".

Click on "Let me Choose" and you should see XBCD driver. Click it, hit ok and that should do the trick.

Open the XBCD Setup Util, and you should see the gamepad listed. The buttons go crazy, but this is a fault of the setup util, always has been. 0.2.6 even has built in profiles for different mappings, the one I use is triggers on seperate axis. I tested this out on rFactor and it works great, rumble support and all.

Hopes this helps anyone else having this problem!

I recently tried Street fighter IV with 2 Xbox 360 gamepad and it's work perfectly with XBMC.
You just have to go in Device Manager and install the XBMC driver for the second gamepad.
XBMC should find two gamepads after rebooting. You can add different mapping for the gamepad and chose on the gamepad which is the first(with Xbox button)...

yes, that's why when u run dseo tool there's an option to remove watermark.

Bad news.... a slight oversight has rendered xbcd's rumble incompatible with x64 apps. the rumble driver is not x64 compatible at this time, and im not exactly code savvy enough to correct this.

Yes, unfortunately you must be test mode for the driver to work.

Also I fixed my last post. The driver is located in system32/drivers. I just installed Home Premium 64bit and this method works great for retail builds of W7. Huge thanks for Squall and all those involved in keeping XBCD alive!

There is no need to disable UAC.
as long as Test signing is off, and the file is signed(for Vista/7 x64), it is simply a matter of doing an update install.

Post a screenshot of the device you are trying to update in device manager.
It is probably a 360 type control that is not yet supported in the drivers installation script.

Ah hang on, you mean I need to turn Test Mode back off again once I've Signed the .sys file? That's not the way the intructions read. I'll go and try that then! The device BTW is the 360 EX2 Fighter Stick that was release for Virtua Fighter 5 I think. I will be using a standard wired 360 Pad as well, but that's still plugged in my working XP machine.

Typo, test signing must be on.
The current version doesn't have support for the EX2 Fighter stick, but if you get the PID/VID values from the Details tab in device manager > device properties, i can add that in a jiffy.
