Hi sevens mates,

Last night I've use a 3rd party removal tool to remove one of the player which I don't really used much, and after uninstall the removal tool scan for other file with the player might left behind, after scanning, there are a list of files found and I click to remove it, just within the deleting process, I saw those file with link something like C:/WMP12/.... and while I realise I have to stop deleting it was too late...

then I try to play music file it was fine, but negetive for movie like .mkv which I usually play it with WMP... (I knew I'd done something wrong...) it show an error message like "the player couldn't play the specified file..." it seem i've deleted something like codec....

I've browse through the web for codecs installation, and microsoft website if there are any WMP12 installer and I could reinstall it, but I found nothing... I've tried the "unable and reabling the window feature" which I get from sevenforums.com, it still fix nothing, is there any other way I could repair WMP12??? or any other codec which could work with WMP12?? cause those codec I've install would play the file in other player, but not for WMP...

p/s: sorry for my bad english, please tell me if you need to know anything to help fix this problem...

Thank you so so much for trying....

Hello miccity and welcome to the Forum. Can you do a System Restore to a date/time prior to deleting the WMP12 files?

System Restore - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows

If that doesn't help try downloading the Media Feature Pack and see if it will overwrite (repair) WMP for you.

Download details: Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N and Windows 7 KN (KB968211)

If that doesn't work you could try System File Checker.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

And if you STILL have problems you could try a Repair Install.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Please post back and let us know if any of these helped.

Thanks marsmimar for the fed back,

I've tried restoring the window, but it wouldn't help, I guess it wouldn't restore the file that already deleted? would it?

and for the media feature pack, I also tried last night, inside there are 2 download, I've tried the "Windows6.1-KB968211-x64.msu" as it larger in size (It'll restore more I guess...) I launch it, it come out with a window and scan my com if updates needed, and since I've just update my com last night, so it show nothing... I'll try the second one after the download complete but I think it'll result the same??? scaning for updates...

and for the repair install, just wanna let you know I have my laptop without window 7 CD, and I back my window up with few piece of DVD, will it work??? and will it erase all my file???

In addition, if you find that you are still missing codecs, you can download one of many different codec packs.

I would recommend the K-LITE Codec Pack if you do need one.

The Media Feature Pack x64.msu is the one to use. The x64 means it's for a 64-bit operating system. The x86.msu is for a 32-bit system. Another thing to look for is a recovery partition installed by the laptop manufacturer. For example, on my Dell I have a Backup and Recovery Manager listed in my Start Menu. I can use this to restore my computer to exactly the way it was when it left the factory. But that means you'd have to back up all your important files, programs, etc before using it.

A repair install will only fix the operating system. It will not affect your user accounts, data, programs, personal settings, etc. If you need an install disk you can Google "Windows 7 ISO" for websites that offer official Microsoft downloads. As long as you have a valid Product Key you can use anybody's Home Premium 64-bit disk for a repair install.

Thanks marsmimar,

I've just use all the method that you provide, here are the result

The system restore not working, it still show error of not supporting the file type (for your info, I'm playing the sample video that come with my laptop previously, I tried to play before, it played before)

About the Media Feature Pack it show no updated available, just as what I've told you in my previous reply

For the System File Checker, it show that I'm not the administrator but infact I am (Through the user account in control panel) and I never use command prompt before, so I stop trying after it show that message...

I'll try the repair install now, and hopefully in my later reply will be a good news :)

Thanks marsmimar

Hi Benjamin,

I've install the K-Lite codec, even few more before (Shark, Storm codec etc....) it just wouldn't add in to WMP and let it play the movie, any idea or if it need to something like "mount" into the player in order to let it play????

So long as the sticker states the exact version of your Windows 7, e.g. Windows 7 home premium..

When you run your command prompt right click and then select run as administrator. (Open start menu, type CMD in search box, right click the CMD option that appears above, select run as administrator.) This is an extra security feature in 7.

From what I can see, you've managed to delete some codec files and some wmp12 files. First try repairing wmp12.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/57348-windows-media-player-troubleshooting-guide.html

I think there are some more wmp tuts in the tuts section, you could check those also.

Then download and run a codec pack, whichever you prefer. I have shark's installed but klite works just fine.

If all that doesnt help, run a sfc scan to fix corrupted system files.

Hi matez,

I've started the file checker system, and it show "did not show any integrity violence" and I try my WMP any yet it didn't show any changes....

Now I encounter another problem during the "repair install", during the installation, it show that I should uninstall some software before continuing the installation, the software are like iTunes, and Window Mobile Diveces... After I uninstalled, then it show some device stop the installation, it ask me to update the device first, then continue with the installation... the device was "AJGNN6T7 IDE Controller" I've search it through the web, but I cannot get any solution.... Is there anyone here know what happen???

I try to do this installtion repair because I've accidently delete some file (I don't know what It is) when I uninstall a player with a 3rd party uninstaller, then it scan for any file that associate with that player to be removed, and during the removal process, I saw some of the file link was like "C;/.../WMP11/..." I can't recall the whole link but the "WMP11" word remind me of my window media player, and when I try to play video with WMP, it only show sound but not the visual, even worse with the mkv file, I play the sample video, it show that WMP cannot support because codec.... I've install shark, K-lite for the codec, but it solve nothing... Another player work fine, just WMP....

I'm suppose I've deleted some important file... Is there anyone know where can I found a WMP12 installer???? Please help me if you know...
