Leaked: Windows 7 SP1 pre-RC Build 7601.17104, Both 32-Bit and 64-Bit

Both the 32-bit and the 64-bit flavors of a post-Beta Build of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) have now been leaked in the wild.

It all started at the beginning of October 2010 when the first report of Windows 7 SP1 Build 7601.17104 was published.

At that time, a third-party source was claiming that Microsoft was very close to wrapping up the first Release Candidate development milestone of Windows 7 SP1.

In this regard, Build 7601.17104 is reportedly the RC-Escrow which means that the software giant is indeed close to moving beyond the Beta, and that it is simply making sure that the Build which will be offered as RC meets quality standards and does not include regression issues.

Last week, the 32-bit version of Windows 7 SP1 pre-RC Build 7601.17104 was leaked and made available for download in the wild through torrent trackers.

Sources indicated that the Build was a Chinese localized version of Windows 7, and some screenshots also emerged proving that the release was genuine.

Now it appears that the 64-bit flavor of Windows 7 SP1 pre-RC Build 7601.17104 also found its way to various illegal download sources.

And as it was the case with the x86 version, the x64 release is also in Chinese. It appears that the ISO image that’s made its way into the wild is the same download that the Redmond company provided users through Microsoft Connect, essentially the slipstream version of Windows 7 SP1 Build 7601.17104.

Microsoft has yet to confirm the validity of Build 7601.17104, and most probably never will.

The word "Escrow" reminds me of that scam payment method allowed on eBay. A BETA service pack could have inherent problems or create problems, esp. one named after such a infamous eBay scam--not too appealing to me.

The RC is what I've waiting to look over here not the IT developer's version presently seen at TechNet. That will be made generally available for home users and won't need any particular instructions for installation with the redistributable package.

Far be it from a non Native English speaker to inform you on this but "Escrow" is a perfectly legitimate word - nothing to do with Scams.

In Financial terms this means putting money away into an INTEREST BEARING account held by an INDEPENDENT entity - person or company - until a related agreement between two (or more) parties has been settled whereupon the money gets released to the appropriate partner.

For example buying a property in the US -- The purchaser usually has to make a down payment of x% which is held in ESCROW by a Lawyer / Solicitor until the deal is completed -- or renting a property where the tenant has to make a deposit which is returned at the end of the tenancy minus "breakages" etc.

Not sure about the Law in the UK regarding renting but in a lot of countries the tenants deposit goes into an INTEREST bearing ESCROW and NOT the Landlords account and is legally binding to return to the tenant plus interest - legitimate costs at the end of the tenancy.

I guess I'll wait for the official slipstreamed/integrated SP1, I always felt that installing a SP over the installed OS caused some performance loss... But I guess is just me...

The only problems I ever saw with any SP regardless of which version of Windows it was is with the IT developers versions not intended for the typical home users to start with but for developer testing purposes. The release on tuesday will be for home users with some experience at installation and recovery proceedures there.
