Try this: connect your computer to the router, disconnect the yellow port (so that it's just your computer connected to the router and nothing else). Do a DHCP release then DHCP renew, see if your PC picked up IP address assignment... If it does, open the "Default Gateway" IP address in a browser, that should be your router...

Um...so what commands am I supposed to input in order to accomplish this? It would appear that I'm supposed to insert a number after release dhcp.

You do realize that after you reset your router that you will need to go through the set up process for your router all over again? This can be done in a matter of minutes.

But if you can't even access your routers set up page then there are bigger problems with your machine, hard to say what from here.

I suggest you get out the CD that came with your router or look up the set up guide for your router and set it up again like it was a new router.

As it stands you aren't getting anything from the router at all, it's acting like it's not even plugged in or perhaps DHCP isn't enabled by default. In either event you need to get into your routers set up page by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browsers URL.

Unfortunately, I'm no longer in ownership of that disk. Also, I'm guessing (quite obvious) that I have to be connected to the router for that ip to work.

Yes connected to one of the eithernet ports on the router.

The link below has a PDF document for setting up your router. Just click on the 'PDF' down the page. You need to at least enable DHCP and set up the wireless SSID and a few other settings need to be set. I could set this up in five minutes if I was there, it's really not difficult at all.

As it stands your router isn't doing a thing and it's acting like DHCP isn't enabled.

Nice work Tired, I think maybe your router got hosed up a bit when your "friend" was messing around and therefore required the reset.

Of course at that point you would need to go into your routers settings again and set up the wireless connection with SSID and all that other important stuffs, "I should have reminded you of this earlier" thats what I get for assuming things.

I hope my last instructions with the PDF for your router helped you to figure this all out. I'm going to put this one in the record books as solved.
