Hello, I am running Vista 32 and have purchased a Win 7 home premium upgrade from MS and I cant get it to boot from the cd. I went into bios and the boot order was correct starting with DVD/CD and it still wont do it? If I start vista and go into the DVD drive I can start it that way. I also wanted to use the 64 bit DVD that came with it because my PC is 64-bit compatible. How do I get this to boot on start OR can I just run from "My Computer" because the Win 7 screen does come up if I go that rout.

Thanks,
Chad

you must revise you boot menu carefully because if your drive recognizes the dvd then its down to your boot menu.

Whether the student copy can do a full install was something that people talked about 1 year ago, the matter is completely settled now, see the link WHS provided.

If you dont have the downloaded student iso, just use the usb stick method.

When you boot from the CD, watch the top left of the screen. There may be a quick message appearing that says "Press any key". If that is the case, hit the space bar or any other key.

I opened the DVD and there is a auto start file..

Having an auto start or autorun file doesn't make the disk bootable. Autorun is just a windows function to make installing software easier. Being bootable is a completely different function controlled by other files. There are utilities that will tell you if the CD or DVD is bootable, I can't list one off of the top of my head but I believe there are some listed that were tried in the other thread I linked too. It appears though that based on what others have posted your disks should be bootable.

When Booting from dvd to do a clean install requires you to keep hitting the esc key or f12 key to get into boot menu, on some machines, all depending... once in boot menu select usually boot from cdrom hit enter, a message will appear saying something like to boot from dvd press any key, you hit enter. then thats hit just follow on screen indtructions.

Ok sorry to get back late.... Worked a double :( Anyways, I taped the "Tab" key on start and got a new screen called Windows Boot Manager (image 1) then I pressed F8 with it on (Windows Setup [EMS Enabled]) and got (image 2) I didnt see anything about boot order? Im going to do a full install.

Thank,
Chad

Thats not your boot menu, thats you in safe mode after pressing f8.

Try pressing esc key constantly while restarting should bring you to boot menu.

if that fails try again pressing the f12 key as above

Ok, I tried as follows:

Esc: opens Windows Boot Manager
F12: Does nothing
F9: opens Windows Boot Manager

I have a startup screen that says ASUS and at the bottom of that there is two things it says: Let me look and I will post back.
