ReBoot Time

Moved the Kingston SSD from the desktop to my new ultra portable laptop and it feels really fast now. Even though the desktop PC now has a faster SSD (Vertex 2), the laptop boots a good 20 seconds faster because the slow POST and RAID controller initialization crap of the Gigabyte board.

Asus UL20A with a 1.2GHz Celeron, 4GB RAM and Kingston 40GB SSD

New hardware build - still tweeking software/drivers. Does anyone know what endpoints the measurement uses...is it from the time you click OK to the time your computer restarts and password is accepted or from the time your restart commences to the time the password dialog is displayed or what?

That's a good Restart time when using a HDD.

Some of the low restart times are with SSDs, which are in a different catagory.

Yeah its really not that bad...maybe not as fast as a stripped-down XP, but XP is 10 years old lol

I'm pretty curious about Win7's performance on a SSD...never been able to try one out myself

My system is as clean as possible...and as far as I'm concerned, there's no more I can do to speed it up more, I'm using MSE as my AV so maybe that has something to do with making it faster also...

SSDs give you a noticable performance increase.

Best upgrade I've ever done.

57 seconds, which isn't the best, however I think its great coming from a laptop, plus a laptop that still has all the factory parts in it.

Let's just start by saying this computer is a bit of a hodge-podge machine. Hardly any of its parts are standard these days, ever since i got it I've tweaked and tuned it into something that while its not as powerful as other computers it will certainly catch your attention and is rather memorable, hopefully not for the wrong reasons.

Thanks for the welcome, A Guy.

I just switched on "No GUI Boot" under Msconfig and it shaved four seconds off the reboot time, so now its 53 seconds.

This is my stock HP Pavilion P6654y. I have 720 GB HDD. and 4GB RAM, With a quad processor. More info is in my profile. I would like to know if there is anything I could do to help my comp be faster in internet and just plain speed. What would be the best upgrade possible. I am going to get 4 more GB's of RAM for X-Mas I think. But it is not going to match what I have know I have 2 2GB size RAM in my system now. Also Is there a better thread to ask this question I will do it there instead.
