I have Windows 7 Ultimate and I also have a Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000.
It has a Media player key and it shows Windows Media Player as the default program to open DVD's.

When I press the media button I get this message: "The Current assignment for this customizaale key is not available. To reassign this key click next." I click next and brouse to Windows Media Player wmplayer.exe and set it to use this windows player exe. file to open it . Then when I press the media player key on the keyboard I get this message: "wmmplayer.exe has vs. # 11.0.6002.18311 where 12.0.7600.1667 was expected. Windows media player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to go to Microsoft webpage to install it? I clicked yes and it took me there but there is no way to download it.

Can someone please tell me how to correct this situation and download vs 12 of wmp.

Does Windows media player play the DVD's or are they played by Windows Media Center?

Tom

If you can open your start menu, type "wmplayer", and press Enter, WMP is installed. Right click the menu bar up top (that gives you your extended menu) and choose Help > About Windows Media Player. if it says 12.xxxxxxx then you're dandy.

a) The s/w you have for your MS DMK 3000 was created before W7 came out so WMP12 didin't exist yet. It doesn't know that WMP12 is there thus when it looks for WMP11, it's like "um, it's not there.... Try downloading the latest version of IntelliType (8.0 if you use USB, 7.1 if you use PS/2) from Microsoft's website: Software Download

b) Windows Media Player 12 is already installed; see above for why it might make you think it's not.

c) They both do.

Jelyman, something is strange. I did as you suggested and checked help in WMP and it says I have vs 11.0.6002.18311, BUT when I check my software via Belarc Advisor it says I have WMP vs 12.

Seems to me that some file must be messed up.

Is there anyway short of reinstalling 7 to correct this situation.

I downloaded some software called Media something and then deleted it and I bet it changed my files someway.

I like my Microsoft digital keyboard and would like to get that button working. When I check the configertion of the button it shows that it is set to pull up WMP but evidently it is pointing to the wrong file.

Jelyman, I have Vista 64 bit on another drive in my computer and I also have the same Microsoft keyboard software Intelli Type Pro 8.0 64 bit for Windows 7 installed on the Vista drive and the media key works fine there. I checked to see which vs was install in Vista and it was vs 11.

Do you think maybe if I delete the keyboard software and reload it that would work.

Jelyman, the problem is solved. I restored to a earlier point where I had loaded the microsoft keyboard software which took the program off. I then downloaded it from microsoft website and reinstalled it and now the media button works fine and the help file in wmplayer.exe shows that I have vs 12.

Please note my replies previously showing that something strange was going on.

It is now corrected and I would like to thank everyone that did lend me a hand.l

THANKS

Tom
