Folders won't open in the same window.

Hello everyone,
I recently installed the new pack of updates from Windows Update, and since then, I've been having an issue where my Folders will open in new windows, rather than in the same window, as a double-click should initiate. I have already checked in the Folder Options and they are checked to open in the same window, I tried flipping it the other way and back too, this had no effect. I am curious if perhaps something has gone wrong with the registry during the update? Any ideas would be helpful, as this is terribly annoying.

Thanks!

Try running a System Restore to a point just before you performed the updates.

Dzomlija,
I tried restoring to before the critical update that happened on 12/14, and I still am having issues, I rechecked and the option to open in the same window is still checked.

Brink,
I tried to fix the issue using RegEdit, however my value in the 5th column was already 0A, I changed it, and updated the registry that way anyway, and still am having the same issue. I have restarted the computer since updating the registry also.

Zouri,

As a test, create a new administrator account to see if it may work properly while logged on to it. If so, then you copy all of the contents of the old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder. After everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account while logged in the new user account.

Brink,
I just tried creating a new administrator account, and that didn't work either, the option was checked in the new administrator account to have them open in the same window, and I checked the registry as well, and tried that.

Still no luck :(

If you have a retail copy of Windows 7, then you could do a repair install to fix it without losing anything. It's a bit more involved, but it should work for you since the other items above didn't.
