SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)--Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) on Tuesday announced the date the latest version of the Windows operating system, Windows 7, will be in general commercial availability: Oct. 22.

wsj is pretty much always spot on. plus they say its coming from microsoft..sooo

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that MS will be smart and make the upgrade work with an XP or Vista disc, and not have to have the previous OS already installed. Didn't Vista upgrades do it dumb like that?
