Hi all, I am getting desperate and really need help. I have tried three different wlan adapters (asus usb-n13, telewell TW-WLAN 802.11NUSBV2 and now buffalo wli-uc-G300N) and I couldn't get any of them to work. I have googled and searched these forums and tried a few tricks like disabling antivirus/firewall, running installation in compatibility mode and updating motherboard bios, but no luck.

For asus I couldn't even install the drivers properly as installation just hang forever. For telewell and buffalo the installation seems to finish properly, but then I can't get the wireless connection enabled. I can see the connection listed in windows network management but it is disabled. When I try to enable it, it goes enabling...enabled. But it is still showing as disabled. I have non english windows, so I am not sure about the excact wording. I have returned the telewell and asus adapters to the store and am now trying to get the buffalo working.

I have windows 7 professional 64 and Asus ROG maximus III formula motherboard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried going into the Network and Sharing center then going down to where it says "Setup a new connection"? Once there you need to go into the "manual wireless setup" then define the settings used in your router such as selecting the SSID "name of your network", type in the security key that you set up in your router, also for the wireless security WPA2 is best, and encryption, AES works best.

You need to define these setting in both your routers control panel and also when you set up the connection in Windows 7.

Thanks for the quick reply! I downloaded drivers from your link and tried to install them. Near the end of the installation the installation program said that I already have the latest drivers and gave only a chance to cancel the installation, so I guess my drivers are up to date.

I tried the "Setup a new connection" and "manual wireless setup". I got a window saying "unexpected error" and a prompt to run problem diagnosis. Diagnostic said that there might be a problem with the driver and in details that windows failed to bind ip protocoll stack with the network adapter automatically. Then it gave a chance to fix the problem automatically, but it didn't work.

If that is the case then you may have a file corruption problem, it sounds like something is messed up with your system. Can you download the Windows updates with a wired connection?

Have you tried running the sfc /scannow command to check for corrupted or missing files?

Or maybe a start up repair will work.

I tried both sfc /scannow and startup repair tools. Neither could find any problems. But on the plus side, I didn't even know about those before, so at least I am learning something.

I can download windows updates, is there some spesific update I should look for?

Those updates fix all sorts of problems and some of them are specific to your machine.

I would also look into the services.msc to make sure that all your networking services are started and set to automatic.

Thanks again for reply. I am learning new stuff.

I have automatic updates and checked manually for optional updates and installed all that were available. It didn't help.

I checked the services.msc and there was huge amount of different services related to networks. I read the descriptions and put all to automatic that I think could be relevant, but there were some that I hesitated to touch since I didn't understand what they are doing, like Net.Pipe Listener Adapter, and I was afraid that I might screw something up or expose my computer to outsiders. Is there some spesific service that I should be looking for? The ones that I put to automatic didn't help.

I got it to work, yes, yes yes!:D I don't know how many hours I spent with this thing. The solution was to completly uninstal, not just disable, my firewall (zone alarm). Thanks to chev65 for all the help.:)

Zone Alarm, yet another A/V problem, man am I ever sick of seeing A/V problems. I've seen them cause a million different types of problems but not allowing any type of wireless adaptor to work is a new one on me. Who would ever make such a program?

If you would have mentioned that you had Z/A installed it would be the first thing I would have you uninstall. Glad you got it working.

Hey nohope!

Registered to say a big thank you. Customer has laptop, had to reinstall Vista.

Symptoms: no wireless networks detected although clearly there on other units. No driver conflicts or wifi problems shown.

Couldn't get wireless to work although tried various drivers in differing orders, Windows all the time saying everything was fine. Tried internal wireless, even replaced it with another and tried wireless adapter instead. All no joy, thought it might have been mobo.

Guess what! Uninstalled ZoneAlarm Free and WE'RE BACK!!!!! Funny, had tried disabling it and have had no problems on other units. However, another tool for the box should it happen again.

All the best,

DcR C
