OK, could OCZ make this any more confusing?

Anyone know the difference between these drives:

OCZSSD3-2VTX120G
OCZSSD2-1VTX120G
OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G

Also considering this 180gb Drive from OCZ
OCZSSD3-2VTX180G

Yeah it’s a hard decision. I started to go Intel but the sandforce controller and price pushed my wallet towards OCZ. Don't know what the warranty is for Intel, but the OCZ Vertex 2 is 3 years.

To be honest I can’t see you going bad with Intel. I could have easily done it myself and wouldn’t have lost any sleep...

I bought the Intel drive and feel the same way - wouldn't have lost any sleep had I bought the OCZ drive. You can't lose with either of them.

Can someone point me to a tutorial for checking and updating the firmware before I install the OS? Or should I just leave it as is when it arrives?

You might be better off looking to the manufacturers website/forums. That's what I did.

Off topic but here's anoter piece of advice.....

If your system is running fairly smooth and you don't want to reinstall everything you might have a look at this program a use here (whs) introduced me to - Paragon Migrate OS to SSD - Overview. It makes moving an OS from one a hard drive to an SSD drive extremely easy. It's fast (less then 20 minutes, cheap ($20 bucks), extremely easy to use, and it even allows you to chhose which files to move over the the drive.

It's one of the best pieces of advice I ever got for software. Made the task of moving over migrating over to an SSD drive extremely painless

However if you're having issues with your system I'd do a fresh install. Luckily I wasn't so Paragon worked like a champ.

You can check back a few posts and see how to see what firmware version you have using Device Manager..
The firmware version is written on the drive case.

New Intel RST drivers better or worse?

Just curious but has anyone experienced any drops or increase in performance on their SSD drives using Intel's latest (10.​1.​0.​1008) Rapid Storage Technology (RST) drivers?

I can't speak on it myself since I was already using the latest drivers when I got my SSD drive.

Just want to know if you feel they are better or worse than the 9 series.

Can't say as I've seen any difference either way. It might be a little bit peppier, but that's probably the placebo effect you get with every update.

Well for some odd reason mine gave 7.7, then I immediately ran WEI again and it dropped to 7.6 :huh:

Anyways no sleep lost as it's far better then that 5.9 spinner that was holding me back

Now I'm off to upgrading my i7-930 to a 950
