I'm doin my best but my dad is a very negative person so it gets hard to work with that but he knows more than I do so I can't complain.

Indeed when it comes to computers there isn't anything your not capable of fixing yourself, I've worked on computers for hours before i found the solution. Sometimes you must walk away and have a breather.

I can't imagine its anything too serious, the computer runs and sounds normal I'm just not getting the image. The PSU is new but I suppose that could be it, or my GPU is being a power hog?

I had this happen to one of my machines at work the other day. I used a multi meter and found out is was the PSU.

When I did reasearch it seemed that from working to not working (not even POST) is often the PSU or the Mobo, surley if the GPU was the issue there would be some form of POST?

Agreed, normally its 3 things, Motherboard, PSU or Memory either reseated or replaced.

My guess is the memory or PSU, since the bios is not booting my dad is convinced that there is something else wrong. The thing I personally don't get is how it goes from working fine to starting up, freezing, and then displaying nothing.

I took another look and I do not see a gpu on the motherboard, even in the manual, just a sound card.

You try what i suggested and unplug anything you dont need, keyboard mouse, extra HD all memory but 1 stick. reseat that stick, reseat your video card?

Just tried it, same result. Mouse and keyboard are unplugged. All memory but 1 stick is out, reseated it, as well as video card.

There is no on-board graphics on your Asus Striker II Formula nForce 780i SLI Mainboard

Just did, different slot, different stick, same result. Don't have a volt meter

I'm saying at this point its the GPU, that is my guess.

If the bios ran through and the OS was starting up when it froze the first time I started it with a new monitor would it suggest the PSU/Mobo/CPU or could it still be the GPU?

Absolutely if your getting a black screen then yes it could still be the GPU

Absolutely if your getting a black screen then yes it could still be the GPU

If I could test the GPU that would atleast let me know its one of the internals.

I don't know personally, that would make it much easier to test if it could.

Are you getting any Post Codes? Typically if its hardware related upon boot up a post code will be given. And u could even update the bios to possibly fix the issue. Here is the link to obtain your Manual to check post codes and possibly update the bios if its that out of date.

Normally it puts out one beep at start up but its not doing that now I just noticed.

You need some graphics facility to drive the monitor. And his mobo does not have an on-board.

I managed to get the LCD Poster back into the motherboard before I had to leave for work, it runs through all the processes and then ends with "errormsg". I'll take a video of it so its easier to understand, I just got back from work so i will in a bit.

A few more suggestions:

1) If you upgraded your CPU you might need an updated BIOS for it to work right.

2) Take the whole works apart and put it back together. Pay special attention to where the motherboard standoffs are.

3) Make sure there aren't any bent pins on the CPU (or Socket) or on any of the devices you are connecting.

4) Make sure everything is seated properly and the contacts on your RAM and cards are clean.

5) Make sure there is no dust in RAM or card slots.

6) Make sure you haven't pinched a wire somewhere - check them all carefully for nicks in the insulation.

It might also help if you tell us which parts are leftover from the old computer and which ones are brand new. Go ahead and list them all.

Do not give up!

Do you even have a speaker connected to your mobo? Some Cases dont have a speaker heh That definitely makes sense though.
