oh that's convenient!
I have a switch for my CMOS, and IO have a remote back panel switch extension for the CMOSCLR jumper so i don't have to dig under my video card, thopse things cancel each other out, i'm about to desolder that damn stich and add jumpers instead... warranty gone after? probably... but my case is pushing 140+Lbs and it's screwed into a Rack, i'm SOL if i have to clear my cmos or fumble with jumpers, there's also a massive GTX470 and a Cooling Duct in the way

Yeah its pretty sweet being at those buttons are at the edge of my motherboard so they cant get covered up easy to get to, easy to read, very convenient

Would the fact that the EVGA 9800 GX2 that I had which had DDR3 and the now EVGA GTX 580 which has DDR5 create a problem?

I'm thinking that I either need a lower grade card or I would need to upgrade my mobo & ram. I'm looking for a cheap card to try to at least get it running. But maybe my mobo just cant support it? I need a bios update, that is a given but i don't know if that will correct the problem.

Anytime you have a problem and your bios are out of date, thats the recommended time to update the bios, You would never want to update them unless your having some sort of issue so yes update them try that out..

As for the card being incompatible that isnt very likely, as typically most pcie cards all work in any pcie slow, where you get an issue is the speed of the PCIE but the cards will still work, just not up to their full potential.

I can't access the bios because my screen is receiving no signal though so I can't update it or edit anything. The only thing I have not tried is swapping out the graphics cards to see if that is the problem. If it is not that then I do not know what it is.

I have found numerous posts about the same situation with either no replies or no solutions offered. I still can't figure out why it worked one day and the next started windows and then froze to start this mess.

So I am borrowing my friends GPU right now and its goin all the way to "auto cfg" and then stopping. No display is visible, it is no longer stopping at "errormsg" but at "auto cfg". I've tried rewiring my SATA drives, changed the battery, and tried 1 stick of the four sticks of ram.

I can't imagine what it could be, anyone?

Your down to your motherboard now, Have you tried reseting Cmos? If you have tried another GPU and still cant get your Display correct only thing you really have left is your motherboard. - TOny

Sorry if this has already been tried, it's getting to be a long thread and I'm too lazy to read all the way through it again. :o

If you haven't already done so, go into the BIOS and look for something along the lines of "Reset ESCD". Enable it, save it and reboot.

If that makes no difference, try resetting the BIOS completely via the jumper. If you are not absolutely sure how to do that then make sure and ask beforehand. :)

EDIT: Wow, Tony - great minds think alike! :D

Tried resetting the Cmos multiple times, I have come to the conclusion that the mobo is messed up in some way. Guess I'm just gunna have to wait another 2 months to have a working desktop I guess...

I've given up on the current set-up I have, whether the motherboard or CPU are at fault. I was glad I had gotten everything back together since i had been prolonging it since September. I am now working part time so i was planning on saving my money but it looks like that will not be happening. I am planning on getting a new motherboard, CPU, and Ram. I am following this guide exactly, anyone have any other suggestions?

What I Recommend Exactly, Far as Motherboard CPU and Memory.

If your on somewhat of a small budget stay away from Intel. If your not By All Means get a Sandy Bridge CPU.
Processor: Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX
Motherboard: Newegg.com - MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
Memory: Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

Processor is a Great Gaming/General use Processor with the potential to overclock to 4.0ghz on Air. If your going for more of a editing type computer build you should go with a Six Core 1090T or something along those lines.

Motherboard is the most expensive as it should be, It gives you much more potential for the future, I personally have the 790FX GD70 And love it. But the new 890FX has USB 3.0 and 6.0gbs Sata Ports instead of 3.0.

Memory is at a great price and of Excellent Quality, Whichever board you do get MAKE SURE you check the QVL (Qualified Vendors List) for the recommended Memory. - Tony

Guru3d Spring Buyers Guide?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Rant: (Optional Info)
I bought new parts to rebuild my pc during September, I put it all together and it worked for a few minutes till I shut it off. The next day I tried to start it up and it worked for 30 seconds before it crashed at the loading screen. In an old thread it was narrowed down to either the Mobo or GPU. I worked for days trying to figure out what it was and if I could fix it to no avail. Still don't know which it is but the mobo constantly had an error msg during post. I only upgraded certain components till I had the money and time to upgrade the CPU, Mobo, and Ram (Which has been the past few months). The only thing I can think of which might have gone wrong was the screwing down of the cpu cooler, which might of been too tight (I don't think so though) besides that I do not know.

Old Thread:
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/136033-rebuild-gone-bad.html

Dilemma:
I've been waiting for the Spring Buyers guide from Guru3d to buy the new components I need but it has not been posted, will it be?

I would like to get the build done since it has been 6 months since I started.

What would you guys suggest for a CPU, RAM, and Mobo? Normally I look toward the higher Mid-end range.

I've been tied up in hospitals and school work so I have no idea what has come out since. I've looked around but I always find guidance to be helpful.

Info is much appreciated, I've had a GTX 480 sitting around unused for 6 months

Thanks!
