Is there a way to change the values for Quick Launch, from regedit ?

Can i make it more "tiny" ?
I explain you why i wanna do that : i want to get my taskbar very tiny, but when the Quick Launch is enabled, i cannot.
If i disable the Quick Launch, the taskbar looks tiny, the way i want.
But i wanna keep Quick Launch, enabled, and at the same time, taskbar should look tiny, too
Is there some tricks to do that ?

Okay, i'll explain: i use Snow Leopard theme.
Before that, i mean after i installed Windows 7, i created the Quick Launch.
Whatever i do, when the Quick Launch is enabled, the taskbar is higher
But when i uncheck the Quick Launch, is tiny ( remember, SL theme )
I tried the same story with one default theme from Windows.
When QL is enabled or disabled, it doesen't make no difference ( with Aero, for example )
So, i wanna keep SL theme, with the QL enabled but with the tiny taskbar.
And i thought there is a trick in the regedit, to modify some values for QL ...

The taskbar with the Snow Leopard theme looks smaller, but that's because the icons are truncated (in your picture), it doesn't look very nice as such. Why don't you like the bigger taskbar with the QL taskbar on? It's only marginally higher, I don't see the big deal.

I use the program Vista Style Builder.
So, i modified the taskbar size. But however i'm doing, if i disable the QL, looks okay, but i want to keep QL.
But there is one more option for me : i disable forever the QL. If i do that, i won't have the "show desktop" again, on the left side ( i dont use the other one next to the trayclock )
So i tried this way, but i can't get the "show desktop" pinned on the taskbar.
Actually, if i do it, when i press on it, it doesen't shows the desktop.
It brings me to some "user /folder " ....
I'll give it one more try, following this link :

And here another printscreen, with the QL enabled, tiny taskbar, but the Start button is a bit " destroyed"
I think that's the problem : i could keep this settings, with the QL enabled, taskbar thin, but after restart the taskbar is wide - huge.

The Start button doesen't "fit" in there on the tiny taskbar, and i think that's why, after restart it looks like that.
What do you think ?

1. Right-click an empty area on the taskbar. If Lock the taskbar has a check mark next to it, the taskbar is locked. Unlock it by clicking Lock the taskbar, which removes the check mark.
2. Point to the edge of the taskbar until the pointer changes into a double-headed arrow**

3. You can also check the Use Small Icons in taskbar properties this takes it just below the top of the start orb.

With or without QL, the taskbar doesen't stay tiny as i want. It stays only when i modify it with Vista Style Builder. After restar or log off, is huge

I don't think the Quick Launch taskbar has anything to do with your problem, it looks more like a bug with either the design of the Snow Leopard theme (or its Apple button), or the Vista Style Builder tool, that does not scale these buttons properly.

It looks like with QL disabled, the Apple button is truncated at the bottom to fit in the single-height taskbar, instead of not being truncated but having the top of the button overlapping the rest of the screen, and when QL is enabled, the height of the taskbar is set to match exactly the height of the Apple button.

With the default Windows theme, the Windows/Start button on the single-height taskbar stays exactly the same whether QL is enabled or not: It is very slightly truncated at the bottom, maybe by 1 or 2 pixels, and the top of the button that does not fit in the taskbar just overlaps with the rest of the screen.

I suspect the culprit may be the position of the Apple button in the Snow Leopard theme, maybe it should be positioned at the very bottom of the taskbar, like coordinates 0,0, so it will scale gracefully on single- or double-height taskbars, with Quick Launch enabled or not. Is there a way you can load the default Windows theme into the Vista Style Builder tool, to see the size and coordinates of the Windows/Start button and compare with the Snow Leopard's Apple button?

Apple Start button doesen't belong to the SL theme i use.
I use this Apple Start button, long time before the SL theme.
And yes, i'll try as you said, with one default theme from Windows, to see the size and coordinates.

The only other thing I can think of, is that the Apple button may include a solid color background instead of one with the transparent attribute. This could possibly prevent Windows from rendering the button properly as the dimension of the button would include the background, instead of being limited to the size of the apple.

I am mentioning this, because in one of your screenshots, it looks like the Apple button has some weird graphic artifacts surrounding it, unlike the default Windows button that blends perfectly with any theme.

To check if that's the case, right-click "Personalize|Window color" on your desktop and temporarily change the color to see if the background around the apple also changes.

I have no idea, I don't know this tool or this theme, you'll have to try it out.
Switching back to the original smaller one will probably work, but if Microsoft is able to make the default large Windows/Start button work, your apple button which is approximately the same size should work too, you just need to find out the technical requirements for this button.

I stopped wasting my time on such vanity and customization tools long ago! ^-^
If you want a Mac look & feel, get a Mac.

Otherwise, stay away from third-party tools that introduce dependencies and maybe even security Trojan horses, that would probably won't work when you upgrade to Windows 8, and that require users to spend too much time to understand and configure.
You probably lose features too: Does your apple button glow when you hover your mouse over it, like the default Windows/Start button does?

IMHO this is wasted knowledge that you are not likely to use at school or work. Unless you are actually a developer for such a tool, there are other Windows or computer customization areas that are much more useful, for instance for performance gains.
