Hey everyone!
I kind of did a similar post about this, but want to do this one right.
My question is can my computer handle the XFX Radeon HD 5750 1GB?

My system specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5400+
2.80GHz
5.0GB of ram
ATi Radeon 4650 HD 1G 480w power supply

Not sure what else to specify for specs, but if there is let me know if you need to know something else.

I don't see why not. Motherboard isn't listed I'm assuming it's a pci-e 4650 and not one of the messed up AGP ones they made. The power requirements for the 5xxx cards isn't that bad though so you should be okay there.

Not ideal but if you are only running 1 or 2 hdd's and a single optical it should be fine. It will be close you'll need 2 of those 4 molex connectors for the 6pin adapter the card will require. That only allows a molex for one hdd and a molex for one optical drive. Wattage should be okay, but yeah it's really pushing things.

Check my thread about Upgrading PSUs and Graphic Cards. You'll find the information there :)

http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/135087-planning-upgrade-your-graphics-card-read-first.html

The HD 5750 requires a 450w PSU with at least 26A in the +12V Rail, yours has 16A on the +12V Rail, it won't handle it.

I'd recommend you a Corsair PSU, here you have Newegg's selection:

Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Power Supplies,Power Supplies,Corsair

The CMPSU-600CX is more than enough for your needs :) but you could choose another one based on your budget.

EDIT: Happy Birthday, BTW

Yup.

Not enough amperage on the +12V rail.

Sorry OP.

Corsair or I'm an OCZ fan as well for Power Supplies. Also get a modular one.

And as mentioned it's not so much the wattage but the volts on the +12v rail(s) that really matters as well as having enough of the right cables.

I always like to say in posts like this one that the power supply is the most over looked most important part of any build so make sure you buy a Quality Branded one with a 80% efficiency rating at least.
Fabe

And there you have it.

I have a similar system, I'm getting an xfx5670 1gig and have a 485 psu dual rail. This card feeds off the slot not needing a seprate power. If your interested newegg still has a 30$ rebate going on them. Unless of course your set on a 5700 card.

26a on 12v rail...

my antec earthwatts ea500 has 22ammps on the 12v rail (2 12v rails, with 6pin pcie connector of course), installed 5770, stressed with furmark and nothing bad happened.
maybe its because i have 2 12v rails?

It'll probably be that, if you have 2 +12V Rails on you could balance the power drawn by the video card (of course i'm not completely sure about this, i normally use/recommend to my clients Single +12V Rail PSUs, usually Corsair or Seasonic) and i'm not completely informed about how does the multiple Rails handle the whole connections.

Let me dig into that and i'll bring you a decent answer :)

EDIT: and now i have the answer, i'd explain it but it's a really long article, hehe.. check it out and there you'll find it.

Thanks guys for letting me knoww that my power supply can't handle.
I really want to upgrade, I have $$ laying around and I know sounds funny, but I'm iching to spend it on a video card.
What do you guys say I should get with my system specs, please like tell me a name of a card.
All of your tutorials guys are really good, just i'm not that good at knowing what to get.

Well, about your system specs, your processor is a little bit old, and getting a newer video card could mean: cpu bottlenecking your whole system!

So, if i were you, i'd buy those Newegg's upgrade kits (Motherboard, CPU, RAM) with newer AMD AM3 Athlon X4 processors and THEN i'd go for the newer video card :D let me see what i can find and will be posting it here

HERE:

Motherboard: Newegg.com - ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 AMD Motherboard
CPU: Newegg.com - AMD Athlon II X4 640 Propus 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor ADX640WFGMBOX
RAM: Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

All that for less than 250$ and it'll give you a GREAT performance vs your current system. You could always use your same HDD, Optical Drives, Case and PSU (if you plan to upgrade to a better Video Card, then no, you need to change it)

And it could definitely go lower than 250$, choose a different Motherboard and that combo will drop to 220$ (although, 250$ for all that, i think it's OK) good quality Motherboard and RAM.

That's what i'd do before upgrading my video card.

My .02 Cents.

Cheers :D

Sounds like a plan, stick to it :D

If i were you, i'd save up until having enough money to upgrade the things i listed before, use the old HD 4650 and save up a little bit more until having enough money to upgrade to a HD 5750 :D

But, that's what i'd do, i'm just saying
