This is part of a windchest. The windchest is the part of an organ which connects the pipes with the keys and stops. It contains the valves that control the wind (supplied by a blower and bellows) to the pipes. The holes that you see are where the pipes sit.
On the windchest the pipes are arranged by their timbre (one behind the other) and their pitch (one beside the other) in an rectangular array. The control of the pipes usually happens by two levels: The stop action (or rank action) controls the wind for all pipes of one timbre, the key action controls the wind for all pipes of one pitch. By combination of both actions the only pipes able to sound have an open stop plus the key pressed down.

I'm going to give it to Julian. As you can see, the element was germanium and not silicon.

It's Jack Kilby's first working integrated circuit, tested on September 12, 1958, consisting of a transistor and other components on a sliver of germanium, 7/16 x 1/16 inches, which revolutionized the electronics industry. Kilby often remarked that if he'd known he'd be showing the first working integrated circuit for the next 40-plus years, he would have "prettied it up a little."
