Which Defragger do you think is better, because I am trying to decide between the two, but can't decide on one or the other.

I prefer Auslogics, It will defrag and optimize at the same time and has an excellent graphic.

Have used it for years without any problems.

Hope this helps,
Richard

Yeah, I am thinking about installing it, but I can't figure out if it has enough benefits over the regular Windows Defragger to install it.

Prefer Auslogics

LOVE Auslogics Defrag - HATE Iobit Smart Defrag (and I'm an Iobit fan!)

Auslogics is fast and dependable - BUT my favorite thing about the program is how well it works in the background when you're doing other things. Never slows down my computer and works great with 64 Bit.

Iobit would take forever - and when finished I would re-analyze and there would be hundreds of files in need of defraging still. I mean what the hell was it doing for three hours anyway...?

Anyway, just thought I'd toss in my two cents worth ! Good Luck - Tagen

I rarely defrag a hard drive these days. No more than 2 times a year. Why? Because I don't see hardly any improvement whatsoever to justify the time spent doing it.

Have used Auslogics Disk and Reg defraggers for ten years.

Recently tried Defraggler which seems to find a lot more to defrag, greatly relieving one boot problem traced to slow fragmented HD. Auslogics had found typical 2-3% frags whereas Defraggler found 47%.

I'm not ready to walk away from Auslogics yet but would like to hear how others compare it with Defraggler. Defraggler - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

I use Auslogics and like it much better than the one in Win7 or Vista. I can't under why Microsoft has such a good one in XP, but with win7 and Vista they cheapened it.

What did the version in XP have that was vastly superior to what Windows 7 has today? I don't seem to recall what was so good about it.

Wow, I may be in Defrag nirvana but the new Puran defragger is somehow filling all of the empty spaces in all 3 of my HD partitions. I've never seen this before.

Can some others try this too to see if this is really happening as it appears. It may be some kind of breakthrough.

Out of the two you mentioned, AUSLOGIC is the safest bet. I've had many problems with IOBIT. Plus Auslogic updates and improves the software almost each month. If you want a paid software, go for TUNEUP 2011 or (better still) O&O.

was intrigued by this, so decided to try it out.

initially i downloaded the trial version from the first link on the download page, but it kept giving me error messages during installation - however the second (cnet) download link worked fine.

anyway, yes greg, is it filling in the gaps here - it's there in the 'additional operations' tab - and it's good to see - other defraggers would often infuriate me by leaving loads of holes around the place.

i've only experimented with one of my data partitions, i don't want to let it anywhere near my ssd os drive...

i used to be mad keen on defragging, and would spend inordinate amounts of time doing it, watching the little boxes change colour - such fun!

now i feel more like pparks - i've never noticed slow performance with a fragged disc, nor better performance when defragged. however, i do appreciate the theory, and do like to defrag my data drives every now and again, especially if i've been doing a lot of deleting or adding big files.

well, it started off well, but it's not perfect:

to be fair, i do think the three big isolated chunks are three big image files - but even so, it could have rearranged them more efficiently.

not quite defrag nirvana yet, greg...

What did the version in XP have that was vastly superior to what Windows 7 has today?

A pretty GUI to sit and stare at while it did its thing no doubt.

That said I just use the Windows defrag scheduled to run overnight on a weekly schedule.

Puran Defrag will also do a boot time defrag. I have Auslogics, Puran, My Defrag, and the Power Defrag GUI for contig. I use the Auslogics mostly, but will occasionally run a boot defrag, or one of the others. They are all good in their own ways. A Guy
